Does anyone use Smugmug? What are the pros and cons? What other platforms compete?

I've had a Smugmug account for a number of years and I like them. They acquired Flickr a couple of years ago, so I moved everything to Smugmug to consolidate accounts. I use them mainly for creating collections and galleries, but they keep improving the editing capabilities, so on occasion, I can touch up a photo without having to replace it. Their editing tools won't replace the ones I have, but for some they may suffice. All in all, for my purposes, they are the place to go.

I have used SmugMug for more than 6-7 years. And, I think it is great. I should add, though, that I have no direct experience with other, similar, offerings.

When you check on the various subscriptions, you will see one that suits your needs. And, you can get a free trial, if the helps.

Initially, I had a Portfolio (commercial) account, from which I could sell photos. At the time, that was important to me and I was quite pleased with the product and service. I have since dropped the ability to sell, since I ‘retired’ from that work. Now, my account is at the Power (basic) level, yet has everything I need. Here is a link, if you would like to see my page… https://parrishphotography.smugmug.com/

And, should you need help, support from SmugMug “heroes” is great. If you need help with anything SmugMug, they are there to assist.

Looks great. Are the pictures protected from being able to copy?

Thanks, if you are commenting to me… 😬. And, yes, download protection it is a choice (setting) that I made when setting up each gallery.

I use SmugMug as a plug-in to Lightroom. Makes it easy-peasy to create, upload, maintain the website.

For more info from the members here on UHH, use the search bar to look for any topic. Might save you a bunch of time. And, might offer insight as to other services besides SmugMug. Good luck!

I like and use Fine Art America too but there is no easy way to download your own images if you need them. SmugMug lets you download easily. FFA is great for selling and displaying your work though.

I have an annual subscription for many years and I totally agree with your opinion, except I never edited my images there.

When Shutterfly announced the deletion of all my "share sites," I downloaded a trial version of SmugMug and found it intuitive and user friendly. It is designed for photographers. Signed up for a year of basic service, paying the year in advance to get the discount. So far I am pleased with the site I am developing and my family tell me it is easy for them to access the site. So far so good.

I have been using Smugmug for years and found it has a very good organizing ability. I particularly like the "collection" feature. I have not used any other photo site except Amazon Photo which was terrible. It had no folder organization, just thousands of photos jammed together.

I suggest you also look at Zenfolio, which I have used for several years after switching from smugmug -- at the time I just thought Zenfolio had a nicer look but I haven't checked out smugmug in quite awhile.

Another photography platform is PhotoArtPavilion.com. I've been searching both companies, but Photo Art Pavilion is much different in that they curate the artwork, you earn 100% commission, and you set your pricing. They handle everything else, which is rather lovely.

I'm more of a hobbyist shooter than a pro. I live in a 55 yr and older community and I shoot most of the events we have here. As a result of Shutterfly shutting down their "Shared" site, I too was in search of a new way to display my photos to the community. I discovered a website yesterday called "Zonerama". It's free with unlimited storage of photos and videos. I uploaded one album to this new site and waiting for feedback from my community if any issues arise. If you're just looking to share photos and videos, you might want to check them out. Good Luck with your search.

I've been happy with SmugMug for several years. I use a custom URL that links to my SmugMug site. One of these days I'd like to call their tech support experts and get suggestions on what else I can do with the site.
