I have an interest in finding a site where I can post my pictures for family friends and customers to view and possibly sell my pictures. Does anyone have experience with SmugMug (the bought flicker), adobeportfolio or can make a suggestion.

I used to have a SmugMug site. Sites are easy to setup and maintain. The service is good and the people are helpful. I closed my site because I did not use it enough to justify the cost.

Yes, a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away I selected SmugMug from the sites offered at the time. I don’t remember exactly why but I think it was related to the quantity and quality of security options available at the time. I do know they had and maintain a slick “Publish” plugin for Lightroom which now allows interface entirely within the comfort of the Library Module. I can and do everything I want without logging into their site. Early on they revised their back room processing and messed up some of my stuff. I reported my issue and the resolved my problem behind the scenes in a matter of hours not weeks. It was almost as though there was a human working on it!

In summary I would recommend them. But know that I have zero experience with their competitors. I have the fee on auto pay and can’t tell you how their price stacks up. I suppose it is is a cursed subscription plan but then I like that relationship with Adobe. Updates just happen with little drama.

I’ve used Smugmug for 15 yrs. It’s terrific - fabulous site with exceptional service support, but overkill unless you indeed are selling images. Paying for a service to simply post galleries to share isn’t necessary, but on the other hand, the annual cost to use SM is pretty inexpensive.

An immediate afterthought. I am impressed by how many innovative ways family and friends find to screw up the simple matter of logging on to a site. When logins fail you get a report from SmugMug that tells you from where the attempt originated presumably from IP address. I don’t have my own domaine name so people wind up at SmugMug’s main site. Just copy the link or just click on it doesn’t resonate.

I’ve used SmugMug for about 8 years. I post for friends and family and sometimes I mention collections to UHers and BCGers. I post about 20 galleries a year. My wife and I are birders and smug allows us to document our birding trips which I label and date. That allows us to use these collections as a simple reference. I could sell pictures, but I don’t. I can allow downloads and often do. I don’t worry about unauthorized use, but I can protect pictures if I should want to. There are lots of customization features available.
I primarily use Lightroom and it’s easy to upload pictures to smug though it converts them to jpgs.
I highly recommend SmugMug.
My most current galleries are assorted favorites of 2022 at mrtk.smugmug.com

I've heard good things about Smugmug, haven't tried it.
I still use Flicr to share albums of pics with friends, like from a party or other event, but I don't sell them.
Still free (so far), my pics from 2009 are still there. I had to change my password for their "new login system" (free accounts are limited to 1,000 uploads, only 50 of which can be private).
They have a "Pro" version if you need extra features/more photos, but for selling, probably Smugmug.
