Youth of today

No way do I condone what happened to Nichols by those 5 police officers. But, what the media fails to mention is, if Nichols had obeyed the initial orders from the police he would probably still be alive. Instead he chose not to and tried to break and run inciting those 5 officers into an unconrolled rage and use of unnecessary force.

Will the youth of today never learn? It appear they don't.

You can’t know that! If anything, it’s clear from the video that things started off with escalation rather than diffusion.

How many times have we heard where someone is shot by police because they failed to heed simple commands like "STOP"?

I'm totally pro-police but, sometimes, as in this case, the police are wrong.
Five police officers beat this man to death and not one of them tried to intervene and call for common sense to prevail.
Any one of the officers involved could have intervened in the beginning and none of this would have ever happened.

I'm totally pro police also but I agree that at times some will let their rage overtake their common sense and will use unnecessary deadly force. Given what they must deal with we don't know how we would react in the situations they face but regardless of that they must be held accountable. If they can't handle the stress they should pursue another line of work.

These cops will find a new line of work behind bars as actors when the cell block drama club does a re-make of a scene from the movie " Deliverance" Squeal Pig, Squeal

Firstly, the probable cause for the stop was wreckless driving. This would be a common reason for a vehicle stop in a neighborhood where a specialized unit was doing crime suppression. The cops escalated from the beginning dragging him from the vehicle. If they were a so called elite outfit and they were trained to handle potentially dangerous vehicle stops they wouldn’t have approached the vehicle broadside and opened the door. They appeared to have no fear of the driver, drug him from his vehicle and began to give him an ass whipping. After asking what he had done and proclaiming he was complying it seemed he attempted to get away to avoid further abuse. The law doesn’t say you have to get beat unlawfully and just take it. Five thugs on one 145 lb. man had the wherewithal and opportunity to control the suspect way early in that confrontation. I say this based on my observations only not knowing the totality of the situation and 30 years in the saddle. Generally speaking I agree with your contention but this was way over the top and seemingly not that situation.

I still say obey first and stay alive, then question later if you disagree. In the video it doesn't look like he did this. Maybe the cop thought he wasn't going to get out of the car and overreacted. There is no justification for the cop's actions then or afterward, they were wrong. No one knows for sure but maybe sealed lips could have saved the young man's life.
