Interesting story. The photo of Popeye is great, too. I gotta wonder where some of the other characters came from, like the guy who'd ask, "I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today."

The characters are all modeled after folks in the town. Wimpy was William "Windy Bill" Schuchert.
