Interesting! I was a Popeye fan as a kid, always liked the cartoons. I also recall seeing the photo, of the real Popeye that you included, somewhere in recent years. Thank you for posting this.

Interesting story. The photo of Popeye is great, too. I gotta wonder where some of the other characters came from, like the guy who'd ask, "I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today."

The characters are all modeled after folks in the town. Wimpy was William "Windy Bill" Schuchert.
