Ok so which is the preferred pic? With the tree or without it? Or you can just make yr comments as this is a "Photo Analysis" post.

If one of you is an expert in whichever field & feel that you can improve on either then be my guest & Haveago (ha).

You can post yr result on here if you want to.

Definitely without the tree IMHO. Could also do with taking it into Photoshop or Lightroom to straighten it up and it would be a great shot. If you removed the tree for the 2nd shot using softwware then you have greater patience than me.

I actually think the perspective in the third photo makes for a better photo and composition. 8-)

As someone who has had the same problem in trying to photograph York Minster ( these photos)!, You should have explained to the people that this Cathedral is so hemmed in, that it's probably one of the most difficult to photograph!
I think you've done a great job of it. I've been there 4 or 5 times and it's always difficult when you can't 'move back' that extra few feet!
I've photographed a few Cathedrals and the best tip I can give you, is to get on the Google site and enter the name of the Cathedral, then choose 'Images' on the top bar.
Have a look at how the professionals photograph it. This should give you some encouragment, as I have better photos than are on Google!!

Simples!

I vote 'no tree,' but number three is the winner here.

Number 3. The angle makes the shot much more interesting.

Number 3 is a different shot, and has a great range of values. The tree ruined 2 for me, but I liked the values of the cathedral. So, I've messed with the values of 1, bringing them all up some, then burning the glare at the bottom, the details on the facade center, and some of the detail in the towers.

I enjoyed looking at them, and the chance to play with one.
