Getting ready to make a big purchase
Leica M11 vs Hasselblad X2D
Does anyone have any experience comparing image quality? Are Hasselblad lenses as good as Leica
Thank u

I think Hasselblad never made lenses. They used to be Zeiss but I think they are now Fuji. That said I don't know if Hasselblad lenes or Leica are better. Leica always have lenses to cover the 35mm format. Hasselblad until recently their lenses are for medium format. It's difficult to compare lenses of different formats because lenses for larger format tend not to have as much resolution as lenses for smaller format.

There is a reason that NASA took Hasselblad gear to the moon and back several times. Just sayin'!

In either case, both are great cameras. But, I can only use what I can afford. A person can dream.

Leica reminds me of a range-finder point-and-shoot camera whereas Hasselblad reminds me of a professional photographer's studio camera. Of course, I know that they are both legendary and that they have stood the test of time and set the standards in the industry.

Obviously two wonderful choices. Seems to me that the decision might well be driven by most likely usage, and how it feels to you to put their talents into practice. For the $$ outlay to purchase, one might rent them for a few days to try first.

If I were to buy I would go to the store and at least look at them and handle them before I buy. The Leica is a 35mm format while the Hassel has larger sensor and also more pixels. The prices are close though. I think (I think do not know for sure) the Leica camera body and lenses are made in Germany while I think both the Hassel body and lenses are made in Japan not Sweeden.
The Hassel is a real mirrorless with an EVF. The Leica is a rangefinder but does have liveview.

What is your basis for this statement?

Medium Format made more sense in the Age of Film, when more area meant more grains of film for a given emulsion. When we switched to digital, I noticed ‘pros’ switching to “FF”, where their salespersons would have immediate access to the photos.

See what the pros have to say.

The pros seem to concur that the medium format system offers much higher resolution and that full frame (135) lenses are more difficult and expensive to make to achieve acceptable resolution. Having said that, the newer digital medium format lenses are not cheap by a long shot.

I have only ever been able to dream of owning either a Hasselblad or Leica camera. That said, however, I would choose the larger format although i'm sure it will involve more weight and space.

I obviously can't quote articles that I read from 50 years ago, but lenses used to be tested for lines per mm resolution. Medium and large format lenses always tested lower than lenses designed for smaller formats. They have to be optimized to cover a larger area, but the larger area actually more than compensates for their lower resolution. There is an overall gain in detail recorded.
