I was looking through Amazon for miniature things I could put into a snow globe, and I came across these sea creatures. Included with all the fishies is a hippocampus, a part of the brain. 🤣

Assorted sea animals toys: sharks, crabs, octopus, hermit crab, starfish, dolphins, lobsters, sleeve-fish, turtle, sea horse, Otter, hippocampus and corals

Apparently the word in greek means sea horse.

But the hippocampus in your brain has a connection to Alzheimer's, so it might be a good idea to have a spare.

Yes, but Amazon will be delivering a brain part. Those Chinese script-writers got it almost right.

Shouldn't that be "university for hippopotami"?

https://www.grammar-monster.com/plurals/plural_of_hippopotamus.htm

Even though the noun hippopotamus has a Greek root, it is often assigned the Latin plural hippopotami. So, the plural form hippopotami is technically an error. Nevertheless, the word hippopotami has become an acceptable plural for hippopotamus. (Of note, the word hippopotami is often used by pedants with a highbrow tone, believing it to be correct. It is therefore ironic that the term is based on an error. Hippopotami is also used by some as a joke plural.)

The plural hippopotamuses (which adheres to the standard rules for forming plurals) is more common than hippopotami.

The shortened version hippos is often used in informal writing to avoid to making a decision on hippopotamuses and hippopotami.

During a get together at our home my 6 yr old son (at the time) uttered his 1st -to my knowledge - 5 syllable word: hippopotamus. While not overtly adventurous, he did it while ---- burping. The entire word. In front of friends and family.

While my then wife looked horrified, my older son by 3 yrs. and myself were laughing. I was actually impressed. Giving each other high 5's. A couple of the other adults were almost laughing; called out on strikes by their wives.

Later my then wife and I had a long talk. Ok, I had a long listen.
Seems like I remember a pretty rocky landing.

It was the burping, not the term. Although the term does lend itself to such "High jinks". Mine come out only as burps. The only time burps are acceptable in certain societies is right after a fine meal. In one, it is a requirement to show approval to the chef.

I spoke of this once to my late brother. He said "Then, that means that a fart says lunch was good, too."

Depends on the individual. The speed of transit of the alimentary canal varies widely with individuals.

Takes me 24-36 hours to get something all the way through. I knew 2 guys who got it through in less than 10. I retain all the nutrients in my food (measured at the belt), whereas the fast guys have a lower retention rate. In grad school when we went out to dinner at a meeting, there was one guy who would order 2 meals and finish them both off. He was a thin guy. I retain nutrients from food I only think about.

So a fart could be from yesterday or even the day before.
