This is a little butterfly that I found while walking about the park in Biloxi, MS late this past summer. I have yet to see one like it in our area so it may not be native to the midwest.

It was -5 deg. F here Christmas week and we are experiencing a few days of temperatures in the mid to upper 60's so if the sky holds, I hope to walk the woods tomorrow in search of fungus, lichen, and moss.

Very nice. Is it a butterfly or a moth? It does look like some sort of skipper.

Thanks, Lukevaliant. We have skippers here, however, I've yet to see one with the teal coloration like this one from down south on the gulf coast.

Thanks, Kpmac. I was confused about that also. After looking at it more and more, it appears to belong to the skipper family. You are close to the coast so you may see them down your way. Ours don't have the teal color variation on them for they are mostly a drab brown with the same wing accents.
