Is it fair that the IRS has deadlines for taxpayers to pay their taxes or you suffer a penalty. Shouldn't they have deadlines on paying you your refund if you have one coming?

They have to pay you interest on your refund as their penalty for being late. Obviously, it’s not enough incentive to do their job more efficiently.

The penalty is no incentive at all, since it's not their money and they feel no pain.

Agree 100%
I once carpooled with a guy that really was happy he got a refund. . He considered it a “ gift from the govt”.
For year I ask him why are you letting the government use your money ?
He never understood.
Govt should have a deadline to process returns . Of course when they’re short handed and hiring for needed manpower is cut for no reason except politician “ get even” reasons it won’t happen.

For the new year, If I were you, I would invest in a remedial writing course. Along with your painful jumbled response I am sure you forgot to mention how all those 87,000 IRS agents are now needed by the govt. more than ever.

For the record, the IRS hires go toward (1) replacement of retirees and (2) addressing the IRS workload and backlog.

I do not have handy the increase in the IRS active workforce since the Congress funded the increase.

I will never understand how people who are so concerned about the budget and deficit seem to be perfectly OK with people who cheat on their taxes. Catch the cheaters who are basically just stealing from the treasury and from those of us who pay our legally owed taxes. I remember when people wouldn't cheat because they feared an audit. Now, audits are rare and cheaters know they will probably get away with not paying their full share of taxes. A fully staffed IRS will catch the cheaters.

And while you’re at it, we might as well hire a lot more police officers to catch lefty criminals who are robbing stores all over the US. I will never understand how you lefties want to hire 87,000 IRS employees to help catch cheaters, but you’re OK with stores all around the US being robbed.

And then moan when the stores finally close, declaring such a move to be "racist" and proclaim the area to be a "food desert" or "pharmacy desert" or some other victimhood label.
