I have a dozen or more Zippo lighters. While traveling, I'd get one related to the area, and I'd buy lighters that were special to me in one way or another. The one below is something different, and if it were right in front of me, I'd probably buy it. I still have the little Zippo that I bought for my wife when we were dating. Kind of ironic, since it was her lifelong habit of smoking that did her in. Bradford, PA isn't very far from me, and it's on my (looong) list of places to visit.

Do any of you have a collection of Zippos? I'll post a picture one of these days.

I did but I threw them all (probably a dozen or so) out with all of my smoking paraphernalia in 1982 when I "finally" quit smoking at the age of 34. I started jogging immediately and my lungs have been holding up just great. However I did have a left nephrectomy in 2010 which the Doc attributed to smoking. What a stupid habit, huh?!! (Cancer free since then.)

I had a Zippo that I got when I was in the service and may still have it somewhere, I stopped smoking in 1978. Unfortunately, I did get diagnosed with lung cancer back in June, probably not from smoking but I guess that dosen't really matter. Fortunately, my cancer was found at a very early stage and after surgery in August where a small portion of my left lung was removed, I am cancer free and doing well.

Bradford is also the home of Case knives, an interesting factory tour if one can schedule it. The museum is very interesting too.

After a CT scan revealed a cancer in my bladder, the first question my urologist asked me was, “Are you a smoker?” I did smoke for almost 20 years beginning while in college. The bladder cancer diagnosis was in 2011, 25 years after quitting the smoking. The damage tobacco does to the body should make it an illegal substance, IMO.

I find it odd that anyone who tells a Dr they have smoked at anytime for any length that gets any kind of cancer it is attributed to smoking. I have had 5 friends due from cancer. 3 from lung cancer 2 of those very young and very healthy never smoked nor did their parents. No answers from the Dr. I'm sure a great uncle must have smoked. That was probably the cause. Anyone with half a brain knows smoking is bad for you but I find it impossible to believe every cancer in a smoker is caused by smoking. If so I wonder why so many non smokers due from or get cancer?

I still have a couple of Zippos in my dresser drawer, although I quit smoking in 1978. For a few years after quitting, I would absentmindedly reach for a cigarette next to my coffee cup at the office.

I still have abdominal ultrasounds done every five years, and I'm due next month.

PS - I want to have the KY Jelly and paper towel concessions for all the ultrasound labs in the country. I'd be one rich S.O.B.

I have one left Jerry. The amazing thing about this company was its guarantee. My lighter's top became very loose from wear so I sent it to Zippo for repairs. They not only replaced the top hinge but totally repacked it, installed a new flint and polished the body. Included in the return package was a small container of lighter fluid.
All at NO CHARGE.
Those kinda things don't happen today

DITTO. That was also the first thing my urologist asked after being diagnosed with bladder cancer.

I had plenty of Zippo lighters when I was a teenager to go with the many cigarettes I smoked for about 10 years. It was cool back then. There were no WARNING signs on a pack. Probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Teenagers are immortal…right. And, I’ll only do it for a while. What a price to pay 40 plus years later.

Hopefully, you’re using your Zippos for lighting birthday candles now instead of you know what. ~ Rich

Happy & Healthy New Year Everyone!

They should add a new tax of $1 per cigarette and $10 per cigar to be used exclusively to pay down the national debt.

I'd rather "they" stop spending over and above the national income. Taxing vices never works, because folks will always find a way to get around sin taxes.

I had two Zippo's, they were quite common in my younger days, and a couple of my friends could manage a one handed manouvre to flick open the lid and light it up in one go.

I had a Zippo when I was in the Army. Who didn't? I smoked four packs a day and then the cost went to thirty cents. I said that's too much money and quit but I still have my Zippo. It wore out twice, sent it in twice and was upgraded twice.
About once every ten years or so my primary physician sends me to a pulmonoilogist for a check up so far, so good
