Clearwater Florida Photo Ops.
What are some places within an hour+/- drive from Clearwater for photography opportunities. I'll be there the last two weeks of January.
Thank you!
Circle B Bar Reserve near Lakeland, Fl. a little over an hour depending on traffic. Lettuce Lake Tampa area. There's more, just Google
Fort De Soto Park Pinellas.
Honeymoon Island (
https://www.floridastateparks.org/honeymoonisland) for bird photography. There's usually a pair of nesting eagles there. John Chesnut park (
https://pinellas.gov/parks/john-chesnut-sr-park/) where there are always deer walking around in the afternoon. Sawgrass Lake Park (
https://pinellas.gov/parks/sawgrass-lake-park/) for more animals and birds. If you like ospreys, they're EVERYWHERE! Just look up. If you see a 4 to 6 foot wide nest in a dead tree, or a lightpost, it's most likely inhabited by an osprey. The Clearwater Florida area has many, many parks, and they all are home to a wide variety of birds. Have fun, explore, and don't forget your camera!

Just read some of the responses.....
+1 on Sunken Gardens. Been there, liked it!
+1 on Ft. DeSoto. Been there, liked it! Be prepared to walk
+1 on Tarpon Springs, The Sponge Capital of the world! It's a unique Greek community about a half hour north of Clearwater.
AND, I don't know where you're from, but there are thousands of places to eat, and most of them are GREAT! Don't forget to explore them as well!

if you go in the spring, try venice rookery , its a bit over an hour to get there from clear water. Its very small but LOADED with mating birds.
Agree with Fort DeSoto, Sunken Gardens and Tarpon Springs. Also consider Edgmont Key and Caladesi State Park.
And if you like Greek food, have lunch at Mister Souvlaki's in Tarpon Springs!

I agree with this list of sites to visit. There are dozens of parks in the area, many with lakes, boardwalks, flora and fauna. You might also want to visit the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo (Walsingham Road). BTW: You might want to visit some of our many micro-breweries in the area....and certainly our beaches.
Have fun. It's a wonderful area
Tarpon Springs...the sponge boats in particular. And lunch at Helas!

We just went to Circle-B-Bar. Found out there are absolutely no dogs allowed. Turned around and left!
If there is water we’re ever you go watch out for alligators.
