We think this is a hawk, but we're not sure what species. I saw it on the front porch earlier sitting on a chair, then huddled up against the front door, probably looking for warmth. (It's 7 below zero here today!)
A few minutes later it flew against the window in the kitchen, then sat on a chair on the back patio for several minutes before flying off, that's when I got this shot with my iPhone 12 Max, which has been cropped to remove a lot of extraneous stuff on the patio.
Update: Merlin thinks it's a Northern Goshawk.

I’m pretty sure it’s and Juvenile Cooper’s Hawk.
Thanks, our son brought up another bird site and that was what he thought it was, too.
Nice Shot.
Do you have bird feeders up?
Looks like a Coopers Hawk. I took a couple of pics of one today scoping out the bird feeder at our house.
He'll probably stick around if you're feeding the birds.

Nice to get a shot of any hawk.
My wife regularly feeds birds, we see a lot of junkos this time of year, but also several types of woodpeckers and assorted finches, jays, doves, cardinals and even some robins that choose not to migrate south.
I see some large birds in the trees at the back of the lot, this is the first time I recall seeing raptors on either the front porch or back patio. We sometimes get crows on the back patio in summer, though. And lots of squirrels. At night the possums and raccoons come out.
The tail length and tail markings ( bands) indicate it’s a Cooper’s Hawk
Nice catch Mike. I can confirm that Lincoln is beyond cold!!

I find that every time I fly into a window, I have to sit down for several minutes 🙄 as well. I've used Merlin, but it never seems to have what I actually saw as one of the offerings to choose from
I think Merlin may do a bit better with bird call identification, or possibly with a better shot, one with the bird facing me rather than away from me might have made a better ID, but birds aren't cooperative models. It did say that a Northern Goshawk and an immature Cooper's Hawk are similar.
