Recently spent a long weekend away in the small coastal town of Amble with some of my family, it has a working fishing harbour as well as a modern Marina, it is situated at the mouth of the river Coquet, and looking back up the river you can see Warkworth castle which dates back to the 11th century.

At the bottom of the Village high street is the medieval St Lawrence's church, where there was a Xmas fair taking place in the church itself and in the grounds. My youngest son and his wife are on the left, and my wife to the right

The original wooden church was burnt down by the Vikings in the 9th century, they did a lot of pillaging on the North east coast of England as there was rich pickings in the rich monastic establishments.

Wow. I don't know how we've missed that one. On our trips to England, we've driven right past Amble a number of times. (I'm looking at a map.) We would typically drive to Holy Island or the Chillingham castle or other destinations up there before you get to Scotland, and then we'd drive the coastal route back to Newcastle on our way back to Cumbria. We never stopped there. We will next time. Thanks for the really nice pictures.
Very nice series. Thank you for the tour.

Its easy done therwo. I have never been to Chillingham Castle, I would love to see their herd of rare wild cattle, apparently, they are quite dangerous if you get too close!...thanks for nice comment.
