Two about Amazon -

I've seen Amazon trucks in this area, but UPS still delivers to my house. As much as people complain about Amazon, it is super convenient. Any time of day or night, wherever I am, I can click on Amazon and buy something. I remember Christmas shopping in the old days. I'd drive and walk and drive and walk. Maybe I would find what I wanted, and maybe I wouldn't. For electronics, I first go to B&H, but for everything else, Amazon is my first stop.

Wow is Blondie still in the papers?! The Amazon subject matter shows this is a contemporary cartoon. I remember enjoying Blondie cartoons in the late '50's and early '60's so if it's the same cartoonist, he must be in his 90's.

There are so many things that a guy needs for whatever purpose that no matter how many merchants one visits you will not find it in my little 40,000 person town, even if there is a store that logically would carry such an item. Using mail order is the only solution in those cases. I use Amazon, and other online sources, for just that reason.

Don't blame Amazon. If you want someone to blame, blame it on their customers. If the customers don't like what they do they are not as successful as they are now.

Yes, and it's one of my favorites. I've always wondered why it was called "Blondie" since the strip usually concentrates on Dagwood. Their dog's name is Daisy, one of the most popular names for dogs.

Some strips are repeats from years ago. It's obvious when they're talking about Christmas in June. There is one that repeats during the week, but it's new on Sunday. There is usually a copyright date, like 2010. That's a dead giveaway.

As someone living 150km from the largest reasonably sized city Amazon is a godsend for shopping!

Yes, it is. When we moved up here from Long Island, there was one place to buy appliances. We had to drive to Albany - 60 miles - to buy shoes for my young son.

The comic strip Blondie has been around for 92 years, originally drawn by Chic Young! Currently, the strip is being drawn by his son Dean and a host of assisting artists.

Remember the "Dagwood sandwich"?

Be well! Ed

Thousands and thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of people are not only employed by Amazon, but employed in ancillary jobs because Amazon exists. When one door closes and another opens it doesn’t necessarily mean you are in prison.

I am often surprised at how Hogs know all about and embrace digital photography and all that goes with it and never complain because Pentax had to stop making the Spotmatics. I liked my Nash Ambassador in the 50’s but I don’t still wish I had it or that they still made them.

Times change ladies and gentlemen.

The same can be said about Walmart - but that doesn't make it good.

Nor, does it make it bad. Those of us on tight budgets find Walmart a wonderful place. And yes, I compare prices.

Amazon is convenience. You can go online and find what you want and order it. It arrives in a day or two most of the time. You don't have to drive somewhere and hope they have it in stock.

The problem is that they HAVE cut into the local store sales, to the point where cost cutting to stay in business creates problems with things not being in stock. And if the local store has to order it, a week is more like the amount of time it will take to get it to the store, maybe a bit less if you can get it drop shipped.

When I needed a part I used to be able to go to Home Depot or Lowes and find what I want and take it home. Now the chances are about 50% that what I want is not in stock and they want a week to get it to the store. So then I have to go to Amazon.

It's positive feedback. The more I encounter stock problems locally, the more I have to go to Amazon, which generates more local stock problems.
