I went to Trader Joe's and I bought a small orchid.
I fooled around with an off-camera flash.
Fooling around has it's rewards.

Superb flowers! I like such "close-ups"...and here the colors are popping out like never!
Just a tip: You could enhance even more the appearence of such photos using more diffused flash burst ; the light from direct flash (also from "OCF") ist very harsch...Bounce it on a white card board (8"x 12").
I know, fooling around in the garden with a card board + an OffCam'Fash on its own stand ist cumbersome = not funny! But for just 2 or 3 shots, it should be a nice experience for great results
I bought one of these orchid plants at Trader Joe’s and left the clear plastic sleeve on it. It’s still going strong after over 10 years.

You are absolutely right. Looking at them, I can see what you mean. I originally liked the hard light, but I can see that diffused light would be the way to go.
That will take some improvising. I held the light in one hand and the camera in another, so holding a white card would be a bit hard.
But I have tried something else. I used a manual flash at way less power, and that seemed to work. I have to get those and see if it worked.

They are good plants, but sometimes it takes a while to blossom again.

Very nice Vinnie
Try one or two layers of Kleenex over the flash for a softer light!!
