One thing I've noticed about Sigma lenses is that they seem to be prone to hazing and fungus. Take a look at many offered from Japan and they seem to have a lot with fungus. Might be the high humidity. The Sigmas I have are very sharp, especially the 14mm wide and the 180 F:2.8 APO macro, and way cheaper than Nikon.
I have over a dozen Sigma lenses and all are clear--no fungus. All perfect. There is no reason to assume one lens over another will cloud up if mis-kept in moldy conditions. I would expect all subject to carelessness. Maybe one should avoid buying used from Florida? I have bought two Sigma lenses and one Sigma camera body from Japan. To me, I expect the camera items to be better cared for and perfect from Japan. It is in the Japanese nature? But now the exchange rates seem to make Japanese prices higher than USA. Right now I am purchasing a Sigma EX50-150 HSM which, depending on the mount can run up to $1000 used! but on the other side can be offered at only $200. and every price tag between. A Japanese seller has been offering one in my Sigma SD mount for just under $400 on eBay and won't negotiate. I just placed an American order within the hour for $218. Yet if a Nikon mount it would be $400+. I do not expect any fungus.----ew
