... and it was chilly, breezy and drizzly. Not your usual shirtsleeve weather for south Louisiana...

A bagpipe competition... this guy is the local favorite, but notice the splinted finger... probably didn't help him much and his face suggests disappointment in his performance.

Kid's huffin' on more than a whistle, methinks.

No need to apologize about noise, but next time, crank that ISO up to a 'Baron de Rothchild Grand Chablis du Guzzle du Jour '37' setting on your camera and it'll all go away. Poof!

I'm alarmed by the inclusion of the --what? digital?-- anachronism of the calculator machine in a Renaissance setting. Alarmed, I tell you!

Re: the piper: great shot (as are they all). Finger splint or not.

Ear plugs? Hah! Long story short: friend of mine (who incidentally was the bassist of the garage band I was also in at the time) while I wuz in college lived in a cheap roach-infested second story appartment off-campus. His downstairs neighbors had some sort of cheap record player, and played crummy AM radio-type junk way late at nite, and played it really loud. Time and again, he asked the downstairs neighbors to crank it down a little, but bubblegummers that they were, they didn't. I don't remember the brand names or any of that, but suffice it to say that my buddy had a pretty kick-ass stereo system, and what he did was this: got 'im some bagpipe music, laid his speakers face down on the wooden floor, cranked it up to about eleventeen, and let 'er rip.

Downstairs neighbors got the message real quick.

Final pic: Again the anachronism of Le Dude 'd Renaissance holding a white ballpoint pen? Shocking!

I have been to the one here in Tampa Several times... truly a worthwhile experience. Your shots are wonderful... they have it all color line and design.

#2 exhibits the light dark balance well. If ever one need to explain what positive/negative space balance is this says it well and obvious.

Yup, many of the young “Faire culture” folk have dental conditions suggesting use of things not found in your typical apothecary…
You overestimate me Cany… my camera doesn’t have a Sommelier scale- no doubt the latest mirrorless cameras do- but that doesn’t matter because the photo is of a whisky (no “e”) tasting and I’m not sure how to convert a fermented scale to distilled. No matter, my camera settings are: manual shutter and aperture with auto “BAC”!
Yes, well… in the matter of digital calculators, the battery powered abacus and quill pens are both unreliable in the rain and remember, time travel works both ways…
I’m trying to remember a time when bagpipe music was enjoyable… I think it was in a dream where I was in a train yard, late on a moonless night, and a thousand rail cars were all crawling slowly up and down the tracks, each making their own peculiar squeal… like my head was a chuck roast and somebody shoved a knife in my ear and pried it open to drop in a clove of garlic… except it wasn’t garlic, it was a Jackson Pollock painting instead. After I woke up, bagpipe music wasn’t so bad.
Always a pleasure, Jim- THANKS!!!!

You're right, dpullum, Renaissance Fairs are fun with lots of photo opportunities... and, on warmer days, cleavage!
Thanks! for commenting!!

Nice set of photos--enjoyed seeing these.

Side note: the only thing out of character that I see is the white ball point pen.
