Electronic Shutter Count?

The Canon R5 has both a mechanical shutter and electronic shutter which most if not all other mirrorless cameras have. Does the electronic shutter affect shutter count? When you are shooting at 20fps or more, if that affects the shutter count, you could have 100,000 in short order.

The way you find out is to test.

Interesting question.
I would imagine that the shutter count pertains to the mechanical shutter.
No moving parts in the electronic shutter? so it probably will not increment the shutter count.
But, who knows how they may have designed the camera software.

I don't know if they design the counter to keep track of the mechanical shutter or to keep track of number of shots taken. But since you can check the shutter count via some website. It's simply just check the shutter count now. Take a good number of shots using only the electronic shutter then check again. That would give you the answer. The manufacturers really don't want you to know anything about that counter.

Shot count (for files) can be different that shutter count. Some cameras can be set to reset the shot count to zero when a card is formatted in the camera, but shutter count continues to increment.

Yes, checking as you said should answer the question.

No, it’s not mechanical. Nothing to wear out.

It is perhaps because of the electronic shutter that MPB does not offer a shutter count when selling mirrorless cameras.

Electronic - "Electronic actuations of the sensor (electronic shutter) do not count towards the shutter count."
https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4205077

Mirrorless - "When you use the electronic shutter, it doesn’t impact this number."
I can't post the link - not allowed.

So does the Nikon Z9 have a shutter count?

For those of us still using the old fashion 'mirror' DSLR, is there an easy way to get the shutter count?
Thanks.

This is a very good question, but the larger question that I would have as a fellow Canon EOS R5 owner is,
if/when the mechanical shutter fails will I be able to continue to shoot with the electronic shutter only?
I'm sorry if I'm "stepping" on your thread . . .
Best Wishes,

Yes for Nikon just upload an image to Nikonshuttercount.com. I found out that Nikon reset my shutter count when I sent it in for repair last time.

Sorry I didn't include this, but I have Canon 5DII, four of them as a matter of fact. Getting the shutter count on each would influence my usage.

Canon shutter count will be appreciated, and thanks.

"old fashion 'mirror' DSLR"

Should I be ashamed to bring mine out in public?

An easy way? Too easy. But maybe not for Canon or Sony - depending.

Get Irfanview (free) and also get the plug-ins for it. Start the program, open a photo, click on Image > Information > Exif info. Or you can just press I and/or E to get lots of info.
Get ExifInfo - also free. Unzip and get the icon onto the Desktop. Find a photo and drag it onto the icon. A window will open with loads of info. Look down the list for Shutter Count (or whatever they call it).

Oh, I thought Jerry that maybe I'll use a black magic marker over the model number of my DSLR. :)
Not.
