Wasn't sure this trip was going to happen until the week of--bouts of vertigo in the weeks leading up to our departure date weren't a good kick-start to travel, lol. And my travel buddy Sam was having some health issues too. What made this trip doable was the fact that Sam was coming up from Mississippi in his own vehicle, so the last minute decision didn't entail making airline ticket changes, yay. And the trip was a wonderful adventure as we cruised the back roads in southeastern West Virginia. Our interests were in grist mills, covered bridges, old barns and farms, waterfalls, and country scenery.
When we arrived at Mabry Mill, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, it was getting past peak leaf color and the lovely pond was partially filled in with an island of grass and weeds. This is why I focused more on side view shots instead of the beautiful mill reflections everyone has come to expect from website images.
We then took route #460 through Blacksburg, Va., and detoured to see one covered bridge, then stumbled onto a second one nearby.
One barn with an important message along the way, and then we reached McClung's Mill in Zenith, WV. Rain was gentling coming down and by the time we reached the B&B nearby, we were in for a full fledged storm through the night. But things quieted down by next morning.

Very nice photos thanks for sharing. Saying hello from Pittsburgh

Thank you, Joe! I share these posts in hopes that my captures will give travel planners ideas for their own trip planning, and give others a peek at what they may not be able to visit themselves.
(BTW, Pittsburg is where my grandfather migrated from when he moved to Florida back in the early 1920's. And my grandmother's family show up in an early 1800's census book which listed residents by trade.)
