I've been exploring some techniques in the realm of "Light Painting", and wonder if the attached fits the category. Light source was a flashlight shining on a concrete wall in an otherwise pitch-dark basement. Camera was a Leica V-LUX on a tripod, using a remote shutter. My cat was masked-in as the subject.
Would appreciate feedback.

I like the idea. Good start but needs some work .... I thought I was going to see light painting with lights spun in a circle or something like that.

This is not what is meant by light painting. In fact, there are a ton of resources devoted to the technique. Here's not a bad place to start: https://shotkit.com/light-painting/

Not what I think of as "light painting", but it's your photo, so it's what you say it is!!!

Respects, but calling Scotch Bourbon doesn't make it Bourbon. If one wishes to acquire and develop the technique of light painting, I believe it's better to embrace the technique than simply rename an errant try.

Light painting is simple- you use an extended shutter speed in order to record moving light sources- in the old days we call that a time-exposure. You adjust the aperture to accommodate the light source. You can contl the lights to create a design or record moving ligh as in fireworks or light shows

The is paying with light- that is where the subject is static. The shutter is open and the ligh sous are moved, oftentimes in a figure-8 stroke to cover the subject for multiple directions. It cam is done with continuous light or multip flas pops from various directions.

Both techniques usually are done in dark environments so extraneous ambient light does not interfere with the effect

Old techniques- new words.
