A local grocer in Traverse City has a herd of these beasts. This grocer also sells the bison meat. Not that unusual here! This IS God's country and He has impeccable taste, especially in food.
I don't want to be surprised by something like that. Nice shot, though.

Technically, and biologically, they are bison burgers.

Not only Michigan, there are small herds in parks and on private land in many states, and some of them are the Woods Bison from Canada and Alaska. They are not quite the same as the subspecies that used to be east of the Mississippi, but closer than the Plains Bison.
A long time ago on vacation visiting my family I went fishing with my Dad and one of my brothers in the Ozarks at a private lake owned by one of Dad's friends. His herd of bison would come strolling out of the woods to get a drink and then stand around watching the people fishing.

Either term is correct. one in normal American
common name: Buffalo, the other,
scientific name: Bison bison.
Just like the brown rat (common name); Rattus norvegicus (scientific name). (Also called the Norwegan rat.)
From Wikipedia: "
Though "bison" might be considered more scientifically correct, "buffalo" is also considered correct as a result of standard usage in American English, and is listed in many dictionaries as an acceptable name for American buffalo or bison. Buffalo has a much longer history than bison, which was first recorded in 1774.[51]"
