I keep getting this and to the best of my knowledge I'm not doing it.
I have written Adm. before and have just e-mailed them again. It happens about the same time every day and I am not on UGGH at that time. I don't know how to get back on the e-mail list permanently without getting put off again.
Any suggestions?
I have been a member since 2014 and this just started hapening.

If you put the UHH email in your Spam folder then you will be temporarily unsubscribed. Put the UHH email address, "news@uglyhedgehog.com", in your contacts directory which should solve the issue unless you manually send it to Spam.

Thanks - I'll try that.
As far as I know I have never put UGGH in my spam and I check spam daily for an error like that because I know it can happen.

Would it be worth knowing that you don't need the email to view the topics on UHH? If yes, do this:

1. Go to uglyhedgehog.com
2. Log in
3. Scroll to bottom of page to view all sections.
4. Click subscribe to any of interest. You only have to do this once.

5. Now your "newest topics" link at TOP of page will show you everything that is new since you last logged on. All sections are combined into one handy list, and displayed with newest first - up to the minute, not "yesterday's news" like the email sampler.

Yep, never understood the use (or usefulness) of the email. Can also set UHH icon to start with Opening of the Newest Topics as I have set.

You aren’t the only one. Are you by any chance using Spectrum as your ISP? About a week ago, I stopped getting the digest although other forum responses worked. I have “spoken” with admin 3 times on the issue and each time, they have reset the account and it worked again for a couple of days before failing again. I’ve spent 3 hours on the phone today. with my ISP trying to resolve the issue. Here are the facts:

1) it was not on my end. I download emails to 3 different clients, each with a different email client, and it disappeared from all 3 - not now and never has been in junk, spam, etc. There are no blocks on any of my machines or on my account, nor have any of my machines ever rejected or unsubscribed from any UHH email.

2) there are at least two different UHH outgoing email servers: news@uglyhedgehog.com for the digest, and forum@uglyhedgehog for forum response.

3) based on the error message that admin forwarded to me form their outgoing mail server, the issue is that somewhere in the ISP (Spectrum in my case) server chain, the filter (all major ISPs and many corporate & Govt email servers have an “appliance” in front of the email server to filter incoming mail), saw the large number of outgoing emails from news@uglyhedgehog.com as spam and rejected all mails after a certain number from the UHH outgoing server.

Now as to why now after years of getting the digest, who knows? There are many servers between your email server and the UHH outgoing server, and one of those has changed in some way regarding what it filters. Maybe a patch or an “upgrade” or something as simple as an admin changing the threshold above which some number of messages are considered spam and rejected. I have sent an email to unblock@spectrum.com, with the actual error message asking that they fix the issue (and copied admin), but who knows if it will work. And if you have an ISP other than spectrum, then I have no idea, but it’s not only an issue for you and me, it’s an issue for UHH.

Btw Linda, I’m betting you’re going to ask me why I bother with the digest at all, and after 3 hours on the phone today, I’m beginning to wonder myself 😡. Here’s the error log (with my email xxx’d out) - note the last 2 lines

Oct 18 13:22:22 outmailhost2 postfix-ughemail/error[1824768]: 4FFEB2602E2: to=<xxxx@nc.rr.com>, relay=none, delay=29847, delays=29847/0.37/0/0, dsn=4.0.0, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: host pkvw-mx.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net[47.43.26.7] refused to talk to me: 421 p-impin037.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net cmsmtp too many sessions from 13.59.202.139 AUP#In-1360)

Two big reasons to not use the digest IMO:

1. All topics in the emailed digest were created the previous day.

2. Only the sections to which you are specifically subscribed show in the digest (even fewer if you view the digest without being logged in). Sections with heavy traffic, mostly - but not always - Photo Gallery before the recent creation of Birds subforum, contain just a sampling of the total number of topics posted there.

I didn't understand your copy/pasted technical data, but it looked scary

I do have Spectrum but I also needed to bring my Mac up to date with Big Sur. I would rather have stayed without the update but was forced to in order to get my contacts up to date.

Here’s the issue Linda. When the digest bounces, admin goes in and disables both notifications of my PMs and forum responses - says he has to. That means that in addition to remembering to check for PMs daily, I have to check each thread I’ve responded to recently to see if there have been recent responses. If this keeps up, sorry as I am, UHH is going to become untenable for me (and perhaps others having this issue). I can live without the digest, but without PM and forum responses, it’s a REAL PIA. Not sure why admin says that when he/she gets a digest bounce, he/she feels that they must suspend PMs and forum responses as well - they come from different addresses. Just because one bounces, doesn’t mean the other one does also (unless admin automatically disables it).

You don't have to check each thread. That is what the "watched topics" list is for. See link at top of any page. Easy-peasy. I haven't used email notifications for topic comments since 2013

Good point, although rather than checking every so often, I do prefer a notification when I have new mail. I guess people who use webmail rather than a local client are used to that, but I come from a long background where it’s important to respond in real-time to messages, which might be urgent - IT pros expect that. The days when every one that traveled dove for a phone booth at 4 to check their office for messages and a response in 12-24 hours was acceptable are long gone.

Anyway, I can certainly do without the digest, and at the moment, email notifications are working, so I’m good.
