Does anyone remember these from the 80's and 90's?

I was very happy with 47th street photo back in the 70's. They aren't the same company today.

47th street for equipment. Gene Hacker in Hackensack, NJ for supplies, and another photo store in Teaneck nj (Teaneck Camera?) for other supplies (paper, chemicals)

I got a Pentax ESII from them, and saved a bunch of money over local buys. Cambridge Camera, though, was a bit of "hide the weenie" as far as I was concerned.

Many retailers have changed the way they do business. Fortunately, B&H and ADORAMA do very well. I have never been disappointed. Besides the quality service and experience, I love the candies in the dishes throughout the store.

That's right Bill; didn't their ads/catalog pages appear in the back of photo magazines. Small print with lots of listed items...with what was suppose to be "bargain prices"!..... I can't remember the names of the photo magazines....just remember the black & white print pages. Oh my, this was also pre-internet.

They packed Popular and Modern Photography magazines, and some others which I've forgotten. As I remember, they would take up 25%-35% of the page count. And putting that kind of advertising bucks into the magazines spoke a lot to the magazines turning a blind eye to their sales tactics. It wasn't until the 80's, and the reputations of B&H and Adorama, that the other stores started to clean up their acts.

the Teaneck camera store was called JERSEY CAMERA. I bought my first SLR (Canon Ftb) from 47 St Camera and a lot of equipment from Jersey Camera. And a very good friend of mine, Lief Ericksenn, wrote for both Modern and Popular Photography.

Remember Eli Kurland from Wall Street Camera before he went out on his own? Eli would often have a “Leica Day” when I would pick up a Leica lens or two. Great memories
