Nikon D850 help

After being away from serious photography for over 10 years, this Christmas I found a D850 under the tree. Since my last camera was a D700 (again not used in a long time,) I find the need for a guide(s) to get me going again.
The Nikon manuals are uninspiring, and a quick perusal of Darrell Young’s “Mastering the D850” didn’t give me what I want: a kind of triage set up with a good quick start overview to get me going, then later chapters set up to explain the more nuanced capabilities. I’m also wondering if either Mike Hagen’s or Steve Perry’s guides to autofocus settings would also be of help.

There are many tutorial videos on YouTube for the D850 that may be of interest to you. I bought my D850 when it first came out and for stills photography it's amazing. It's not the greatest camera for video, in my opinion, but it's adequate. I did not take a break from photography, and the D850 is my 3rd Nikon DSLR, so the learning curve wasn't as steep for me, and I haven't found it necessary to buy any additional books on the D850. I have found plenty of good D850 videos on the internet. Good luck with your camera and most important, have fun with your photography.

Try Steve Perry's stuff. Many. many great tips and tricks! I luv my D850-the IQ is amazing! Snap on some good glass and this camera will amaze!
I did not find the menus difficult; I decided what I want the camera to do, and I looked for the settings for that feature/function. Also search UHH for posts on the D850.

I found Steve Perry's books to be quite helpful and easy to follow. He gives great examples. His videos are also outstanding.

Steve Perry's books are great. Another option would be the "...for Dummies" books. I've used those for my D3200 and D750, and have no complaints.

Steve Perry is my first choice for anything camera/photography related. David Busch is another great resource. He has an excellent D850 book out.

I have used David Busch’s books for my D750 and now my D850 and absolutely love the way he explains every facet of the camera’s operation. I highly recommend.

I have 2 D-850s and went through numerous You Tube, Nikon & other well meaning writings. I finally settled with what numerous people on the thread have mentioned, Steve Perry. He has written some above average very well thought out, researched articles on DSLR AutoFocus, Exposure & Meaturing, Focus Techniques.
While all of them apply, I still did fine tuning for my needs as well.
He has 2 videos on You-Tube (7 Best Nikon Tricks...is an excellent starting point, & the followup 7 More of the Best Nikon Tricks).
Thom Hogan has also written/researched the D-850 quite well
