This makes no sense at all.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), a Florida native and lawmaker, voted against a measure to open the Federal Emergency Management Agency up to millions of dollars in disaster relief.

Gaetz was one of several House Republicans on Friday who voted against a resolution to allow FEMA to use up to $15 million in the Disaster Relief Fund, Newsweek reported.

The bill eventually passed in both the House as well as the Senate and it awaits President Joe Biden’s approval.

The vote comes in the same week that Hurricane Ian killed dozens of Florida residents, flooded communities and destroyed homes and businesses.

Gaetz and other GOP lawmakers added their names to a letter that said they’d “do what is necessary” to stop funding the Biden Administration, according to the news site.

So, they would rather vote against helping their own constituents in a time of need.

Fascist mentality.

That's honestly and truthfully the whole story? Is it a stand alone bill or part of some pork barrel laden crap? I haven't been following the issue, so don't know. Does FEMA actually need the money?

You called it.....it was part of a (lame duck)pork barrel spending measure. Gaetz was one of many Florida lawmakers

that rejected the measure.....And FEMA is fully funded and can participate in relief efforts.

"Mr Gaetz was part of a group of Republicans who circulated a letter earlier this month saying they would not vote for “any continuing resolution that expires prior to the first day of the 118th Congress, or any appropriations package put forward in the remaining months of this Democrat-led Congress.”

“As the September 30th federal funding deadline approaches, Republicans must do what is necessary to ensure that not one additional penny will go toward this administration’s radical, inflationary agenda,” the letter said. “Any legislation that sets the stage for a “lame duck” fight on government funding gives Democrats one final opportunity to pass that agenda.”"

Unfortunately.... and even slo eddie should know this, EVERY bill in Congress has some degree of "pork" in them.

Do you know what fascism is? No! Look it up.

Biden has sent $40+ billion to Ukraine which is a European country 5,000 miles from our border and the consequences are the destruction of our own economy. Ironically, the estimated damages to Florida are $47 billion and now we have little left to help ourselves.

Age old tactic. Every Democrat bill before congress is loaded with pork barrel spending and when with good conscience Republicans can't support it they are demonized with the real reason for not supporting it suppressed by the liberal media. Nothing new.

That IS the story!

Nonsense. Some GOP lawmakers voted against the measure not because of the proposed additional funding for FEMA but as a vote against the additional pork barrel spending that was included. That is the story you decided to ignore.

BS!

Gaetz's appeal for funding came two days after he — and 200 other Republicans — voted against a stopgap measure that sought to fund the government through December. Among other provisions, the bill also gave $18.8 billion to FEMA's disaster relief fund, $12 billion in aid for Ukraine, and $112 million to beef up security at federal courts.

Like I said... EVERY bill has "pork" in it.

I see nothing wrong with the "pork" listed in this bill so far.

You don't want to help Americans who experience disasters such as a cat 4 hurricane?
You don't want to beef up security at federal courts... or would you rather see a mini-jan 6?
You don't want to help Ukraine? You would rather a dictator buddy of Chump would invade a neighbor for political reasons?

Why should the US contribute 9 times as much as Europe to Ukraine when it is in their backyard?

If you give Ukraine to Putin, who you think he will attack next?

Whatever Boo. FEMA is fully funded as far as i know. My Dad always told me not to argue with a rock. I see this is going to go nowhere with you so all I'll say is that some other proposed funding may become a "victim" to the elimination of pork. It's call politics.
