I have a nikon D5100 and it came with
18-55mm Nikkor AF-S DX VR Lens & 55-300mm Nikkor AF-S DX VR Lens...

I was thinking of purchasing a Tamron AF 18 - 270 mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical IF Macro Zoom Lens B003 so i do not have to carry both of my lenses around...

What do you think????? Would you purchase the Tamron Or NOT???????

Thanks for your help.

I am learning from this site that it depends on what you are shooting....I just bought a Tamron 18-270mm Di II VC PZD Model B008E and I shoot my kids soccer games. This weekend was the first time that I used it and was very pleased with the pictures.

I have this lens and love it. It's light weight and crystal sharp. I leave it on my camera all the time.

This is my primary lens. It's a great product and delivers excellent results. It does show some barrel distortion at 18 mm but that is correctable in Lightroom.
The other big advantage is that it covers so many focal lengths that when you're on vacation or walking, whether around town or through the woods you can travel light.
One annoying feature? The lens tends to extend itself when facing downward unless the locking feature is engaged and it can only be engaged at 18mm. This could present a challenge if you're shooting downward (The answer? Use a rubber band around the lens where the zoom ring ends and the barrel begins and this will prevent the creep.

Lens lust is a hard monster to feed. Your existing lenses already cover the focal range of the new Tamron. If you must buy another lens for your Nikon buy the 85mm F/3.5 VRII Micro. You get way more bang for the buck by getting an ideal portrait lens and the ideal macro lens all in one. The lens is very lightweight and uses 52mm filters as do your kit lenses.

Hi, it would seem to be somewhat of a redundant purchase, unless you sell the other 2 lenses, in that case you would have your all in one lens, and hopefully recoup a fair portion of the cost of that lens. I've read mixed reviews about the 18-270 pzd, I have a Tamron lens 70-300 and am satisfied with its performance. Should have read your post a little closer, are you looking at the PZD model.. they are basically the same lens, only the PZD focus drive motor is the newer model.

I have the D5100 and recently went to a camera store to try this lens. I really liked the way it handled. The only problem was that it had to hunt for focus in lower light. I also have the 18-55 and 55-200 but would consider them just so so. I am still considering 18-270.

The ideal lens would be a 10-400 mm, f 1.4 lens, light weight, and no longer than 6". And with a built in telephone/power line filter.

I have D5000 with18-55 , 55-200 . Im also was thinking of this lens as there is no need to change the lens. But i found myself rarely do that so i keep my money for this time but if you always need to change your lens i think it is a good option.

I think it is a good purchase! I own two of tem for two different cameras. A Sony and a Nikon. I am very satisfied with the lense and covers most normal applications for the money. Good luck!

I was told by a portrait photographer that the best portrait lens is the Nikon 50 mm fixed - "Best glass for the money" is what she said.

I use Tamron lenses all of the time and have for years, updating them as new models come out. I like the 18 - 270 range and am very satisfied with the lens and all of the lenses I have ever had from Tamron. I shoot Canon and do use the Canon 100 - 400 IS
