I'm blown away.
Old family image (shot at the end of WW11) original in B&W. Used Photoshop Neural Filter, Colorize and this is what I got on the first click. Did some adjustment of color but I really didn't have to. Didn't clean up any other part of the image yet. I'm amazed at how well it did on the first try. I've also used it on old color images where the color is not right and it produced a beautifully corrected image. Don't let our secret out. Everyone will think they can do it.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Faces are generally pretty easy since there's a limited range of colors that appear in faces.
Backgrounds can be problematic. Photos outdoors do not always have green in the background. Clothing can be a really wide variety of colors and the AI has to make them up since there's no information on the color in the photo. Of course with an old photo, there may not be much information on the color in the memory of the current viewers.
I tried colorize a couple times and was generally disappointed with the results. Some were OK, but many were not. It was not a scientific test, and the sample size was small, but I will not depend on it to colorize photos. I will make do with monochrome.
Excellent results for a one-click process. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the tip. ~ Rich

Nice conversion, Tom. One of the better ones I have seen.

The rendering is pretty amazing. Those guys in the back row are what make taking group photos like this difficult.
Picture of a very beautiful family.
Thanks for your service!
