Which one do you all prefer and why?

I use both (LR v4 and PSE v 9). Use PSE to do things like clone stamp, erase skin blemishes, crop to certain sizes. I really like this combination of programs.

This is my combo, too. I appreciate the best of both and definitely keep that in mind when post processing.

Lightroom and PSE are not competitors, so you shouldn't compare one against the other, they are designed with different objectives, LR is for "global" adjustments, tone, colour balance etc. PSE comes into it's own for making selective changes and using layers.

I have been using PSE 10 and installed the trial version of Lightroom 4 a few days ago. I like it so much that I bought it the next day. Between the two, I can do everything that I want to.

I use PSE 10 with Topaz Plugin Filters along with Lightroom 4.2.

I now use Lightroom 4.2 to transfer my images from SD card to harddrive. As it makes the transfer Lightroom makes corrective changes to all my wide angle shots.

I also use Lightroom to correct perspective when the camera is tilted up and slightly off perpendicular to the subject.

At this point I use PSE 10 for everything else.

Here's a question, as I said, I just purchased my copy of LR4 and should receive it tomorrow. Will I have to re-install the software?

You should not have to do that. If you ensure your upload is directed to a unique directory. I've heard of the .exe file heading off in another direction. But many of us have multiple versions of each of the programs on our hard drives.

The trial copy is a full copy of the program but it has a time limit on it. You should have been able to go online and just purchase the activation code so you don't have to reinstall it. I am assuming you are getting the CD tomorrow?

It is entirely possible that the trial version is the latest version 4.2.X and the CD is just 4.0. Minor updates are always free. In this situation, I would get in touch with Adobe and find out what the best course of action is. I would hate to think that you would have to reinstall from the CD only to have to do an upgrade to 4.2. Version 4.0 had some performance issues that have been corrected in newer versions.

That's the main thing that I'm wondering about. My trial is ver. 4.2, and I'm worried that my CD will be 4.0. As near as I can tell, I should be able to just enter the product key that I get with my CD, and I'll then have the disc if I ever need to re-install. I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Thanks for the input folks.

You won't regret it. Each one is great at what it does, you'll find a use for both of them.

They make a good combo. I'm going through a new lynda.com course about using LR and PS together
