First week using LR. 2 questions: 1) after enhancements what is the best (most efficient way to send them all to a folder as JPG's? & 2) What book/video would you recommend to learn LR 4?

Background -- I was using Camera raw and doing a few things and then opening into PSE 9. when done I would save to a sub-folder for finished files. The workflow was simple and efficient. Now that i've upgraded to LR 4 I am trying to regain control.... any help would be appreciated. THANKS! Arthur

I can share my workflow, and maybe there is something in there that you can use.

I have 2 catalogs. One is named 'Master' and that is where my RAW files are imported and processed as DNG files. Once I finish my processing, I Export the keeper photos to another folder as JPGs. Then I open my other catalog named 'Output' and perform an ADD import.

Without reservation, Lightroom 4 Classroom in a Book is the best way to learn the product. If you're willing to spend a bit of money, join NAPP for about $90/year, then subscribe to Kelby Training at $20/month to get access to all sorts of training videos/books.

Hope this helps.

Thank you sir! I should have known is was the export button. I will assume that once i go to that section it gives some options to export i.e. format, location, etc. It gets old when you have to google or YouTube each screen as you go. THANKS for the tip.

When you export you can save the photos to anyfolder of your choice, make and name subfolders for the photos, choose file format sixe, quality, add watermarks etc. Adobe TV (FREE) has many Tutorials By a Mz Probst I think is her name. As mentioned Scott Kelby,s sites are good I think Matt Kowloski is the guru there and it is about $100. Creative Live has a 3 day class that they sell and you can watch it at your leisure where Jared shows you many little tricks that covers the entire program and his workflow being a Wedding Phtographer, which I think is very good also, http://www.creativelive.com/courses/ultimate-lightroom-4-workflow-jared-platt

Kelby's Lightroom 4 book is pretty good.

IMHO not as good as the one he did with Kloskowski on Elements but still probably better than all others because he keeps the general approach of taking you to results vs. describing all the functions.

First, you can import your Elements catalog into Lightroom. That gives you a great start.

I recommend (following Kelby) that you adjust your import preset to go to DNG. You can include your cameras presets so the photos come up in Lightroom already adjusted to look like a jpeg would look on your camera. The advantage of starting with RAW is that you can undo those presets. With Lightroom there is no need to shoot RAW plus jpeg because the preset does it for you on import.

Second I'd forget about folders. Set up Lightroom to do it for you and use keywords or captions to organize your photos.

I recommend George Jardine's videos; they will get you started on the right foot and bring you up to speed quickly. Best price is to get the videos from him rather than order the DVDs.

Unless you are going to use the jpeg files there is no reason to create them. You can just create them as needed.

Check Kevin Kubota's Workflow for Lightroom. I found it to be a great resource. I think you can find some of his stuff on youtube and photopro
