Did any other UHH'ers get a Microsoft update today?
Any idea what is does or is for?
Is anyone noticing anything odd or not working correctly with your Windows based PC after the update?

Both my Windows 10 Home PC and my wife's Windows 10 Professional PC updated today.
We are just starting to look for any issues.
Thanks.

Usually when they put out an update like the one you are referring to, it's security and fault patches and little to no functionality changes.

Mine updated earlier today and my wife’s is updating now. Haven’t seen anything different yet, but haven’t used it for much yet… just running some backup batch files.

Mine took a while to update… and I have been frustrated lately with how many updates have been installed. It is always bad timing… had planned to do some stuff on mine and help the wife on hers… but here are these updates waiting… and I am not sure why but they both slow terribly while they are waiting for an update.

I have a Win11 laptop that hasn’t updated near as often. Neither of our Win10 PCs are capable of being updated to Win11.

Thank you. That seems to be all it is. MS probably would not bother with any function or features to Win 10 anyway with them pushing Win 11. - Mike

That happens to us to too often. We need to get something done on the computer "now" and MS has the computer updating. One time my wife's Win 10 Pro was updating but we did not know it was going so and it had a blank grey unresponsive screen so we thought Windows had crashed to we did a manual forced shutdown with the On/Off button on her Dell Tower. The computer was not happy with that at all. Eventually we figure out what it was trying to do and let it update and reboot. Now the entire process took ten times longer! No harm was done but it scared the Cr** out of me.

I am pretty sure my DELL XPS8900 Tower can be upgraded to Windows 11 but I am not sure I want to upgrade it because it has a lot of older non-MS programs on it including Ps CS6 Extended (2012 Vintage) and others that may not work. Not sure about my wife's Dell Inspiron Tower PC as it is a bit older and started life with Windows 7 Professional, now running Win 10 Pro. I am considering waiting until we buy a new PC and then have that with Windows 11 and Ps CC.

You can control when (and if) updates are applied so they occur at night or when you’re not using the machine: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-schedule-windows-update-downloads/41441941-046c-4f5b-afb5-2ccd6ca566e2

And if you want to know the substance of the update, you can read the release notes. The fact is that as mentioned, updates to Win 10 will likely not be making material changes or adding new features - mostly just updating virus/malware definitions and bug fixes.

Whenever a new webpage is opened, Edge would pause and a pop out window would say "your connection is interrupted" before the web page is shown. It is giving me the creeps, as if someone is checking out and logging what pages I am visiting before allowing me to see them.

Quite so! I get all the updates as soon as they are offered - it's important to do so. I have not had a problem with updates since I can remember - probably never. Updates to my Windows 10 never take long!!! (And I do NOT have problems with Windows 10, either - it's very stable, and the best OS so far.) My only anti-virus - for quite some time - is Windows Defender. Again, no problems!

I get a delay similar to that too but more often on my smartphone than PC.

I usually do too but the one I wrote about yesterday told me it wanted to reboot my PC at 3:31 p.m. Just seemed a bit weird, even for MS.

I too have found Win 10 to be the best one so far with Win 7 a close second. I started with Windows 3.11 long ago and have used most along the way. My PC came new with Win 10 installed from the Dell factory. Also Win 10 Pro works fine on my wife's PC that originally came with Win 7 Pro.

Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22000.975

After installing this update, XPS Viewer might be unable to open XML Paper Specification (XPS) documents in some non-English languages, including some Japanese and Chinese character encodings. This issue affects both XML Paper Specification (XPS) and Open XML Paper Specification (OXPS) files. When encountering this issue, you may receive an error, "This page cannot be displayed" within XPS Viewer or it might stop responding and have high CPU usage with continually increasing memory usage. When the error is encountered, if XPS Viewer is not closed it might reach up to 2.5GB of memory usage before closing unexpectedly.

This issue does not affect most home users. The XPS Viewer is no longer installed by default as of Windows 10, version 1803 and must be manually installed.

We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

On impending updates, Windows always asks what you want your computer to do when the update is completed. Rather than restart, I usually will tell it to shut down, as I normally do this last thing before going to bed.

Of course, now it will install when you start up your computer (boot it).

Mine updated yesterday. Looking at the Update History, it was purely a security update. I have experienced no issues with it.
