Yes, the Queen was apolitical as she purposely kept herself above the fray. Thus, the same should be for religious institutions, as the universal unknown does not share our earthly problems, and it is an IRS rule. I remember one High Holiday sermon that was very political and really upset me. That week the temple sent out a letter specifying that this would not happen again. But the damage was done, and the bad taste was thereafter in my mouth for that institution, which we had belonged to for many years.
On the other side of the coin, the Reform movement serves the Liberals, the Conservative, etc, etc! It is a difficult task to separate your personal thought process from your philosophical strivings!
Thank you Rabbi. She set the tone for all citizens/subjects to live in freedom and security. Continuity and stability resulted.
