My initial experience with LR was the stand alone version 6. I liked it well enough to eventually subscribe to the on-line version. Tonight I am trying to view folders made using v.6 on the subscription service version. About half the folders are viewable, no problems. The other half allow me to see the images in the loop view only , no grid view. Has anyone here experienced this, and if so how did you correct the problem?

Without knowing more, my guess is that the previews are going to take some time to update. It has been a long journey from version 6!

Is this right? You imported your library made with version 6 into the subscription version and now only 1/2 of the folders are viewable in grid view.
Correct?

Hmmmmmm…

Can you please verify on your computer that the original files are in the folders as expected?

A long time ago I had the same problem. I discovered when I remembered I had moved some of the older images to another drive but didn't use Lightroom to do it. When I updated lightroom the catalog would show thumbnails of images but LR didn't know where to look for them. My bad

Are you using Lightroom (cloud-based) or Lightroom Classic?
LR is all online. LrC is local.

I asked you two questions you have not responded.

We can’t help if you don’t provide answers.

When you install a new LrC version it updates the catalogs so.....

I have always had good experiences with Adobe support, and my first action when I have problems with their software is to call them.

You do what Adobe calls "Locate missing photos".

I suspect he has moved the photos but he’s not answering any questions so it is difficult to help him.

Maybe he will read the link.

I think he did answer the question.

Capn_Dave posted he had experienced the same Lightroom behavior when he moved some image files to an external drive not using Lightroom to do it. davidrb, the OP, replied with "How did you resolve this problem? This is what I am experiencing."

In other words, davidrb realized exactly what he had done wrong. I posted a link to Adobe's instructions to fix it.

Hope that is the case. I suspected it too and that’s why I asked him to verify that his photos were in the folders using his computer. He never replied.

We will never know unless he tells us.

When this happens I think there are two possible solutions.

One is to move the photos to the folder that Lightroom is pointed to. This is more desirable if you have performed edits.

The other option is to delete the missing images from Lightroom and re-import them. This is easier if you haven’t done any editing and possibly have renamed the images outside of Lightroom.

What day you?

I think you meant to write "say" not "day", so I will say my opinion!

But first, I've never had the problem. I started with Lightroom 4 and a complete set of tutorials from Adobe's "worldwide evangelist", Julieanne Kost. Among the basics is the hard and fast rule that, if you want Lightroom to work right, you NEVER, EVER move files with anything else.

That said, if it were a few image files I would relocate them. If it is several folders, I might delete and re-import. But the problem with that is that any Lightroom editing work could be lost.
