Good morning fellow Hoggers! Thank GOD NCAA football season is finally here! Need some advice / input on an L-bracket for a Nikon Z7 ii. I've never used one before but in doing a little research it looks like it would be very efficient in switching quickly from landscape to portrait mode (for waterfalls and such). First - any recommendations for one for the Z7 ii? I've found several and want to be sure I can still get to the doors on the side (I understand the RRS covers those up). Second - any pros and cons? I'm thinking it might add just a tiny bit of weight and bulk, but other than that I can't see any other cons.
Thanks for your input!
I have a Gabale on my Z7 and it doesnt cover up any doors. My hands are very comfortable holding the camera with the bracket in place so theres never a real imperative to ever remove it.
The clearance between the riser and the cameras left side can be increased by up to about an inch. The allen key is stored in the brackets base. See attached pic.
I bought it used so I know nothing more about Gabale. The used price was about half of what sellers ask for a RRS. Thaz probably a hint about its sticker price.

I have used this Sunwayfoto bracket for over 2 years with no problems.

The RRS L bracket does make access the the side door more difficult much like the one shown here and like the one shown here it provides for sliding the portrait mode mount (side bracket) away from the camera to provide better access. It's probably more expensive than the one shown here but is really well made; it provides quick release points on both of the sections for example so a QR strap could still be used even if the side bracket were not mounted.
I bought the Kirk bracket for my Z7 ii, my first L-bracket. Midrange price point, aluminum, access to all ports.

I am waiting for the RRS bracket for my Z7-II. No information on the RRS website regarding any future restock date and they no longer allow you to place a back-order for an out-of-stock item.

I have the RRS L-bracket for my Z7-II and it does not block any access points. None. Period. Not sure where you got that info. I like RRS because of the QR feature. I have a QR unit on my Black Rapid strap and makes on and off very quick and easy. Never have to remove the plate. I have had RRS L brackets on my D5100, D7100, D750 and D850 with no issues, ever.

I just checked and it is available today. BZ7 is $210 from RRS direct.
I quit buying RRS brackets due to the high prices after my first 3 DSLR cameras. If there was a way for the bracket to be universal between each upgrade in cameras, then it would be more cost-effective. I've used Sunwayfoto for my last two camera upgrades for a fraction of the cost of a RRS L bracket ($50 versus $185). It's a machined piece of metal that is used once in a while but always stays on my cameras (just in case).

To me, it's worth it just for the QD release feature, to be able to quickly remove the camera from the strap and place it on a monopod or tripod, or just put it in the trunk or on a table, without unscrewing anything. Just pop it on and pop it off. Great system.
