Thanks for the interest. I have a candidate & will ship to them as soon as they provide their info.

Does anyone here provide classroom services or training for kids in the use of a camera? I have a fully functional Nikon D5000, all original documentation & Nikon box, charger, 3 batteries, a 32gb SD card and I'll find a lens to attach.
I will donate this camera & pay the shipping to someone who can put it to use for a kid.
Please send me a PM describing how the camera will be employed & I'll pick a recipient.
Thanks.

This camera has been spoken for and shipped. Thanks for your interest.
Look for a local camera club and ask if they know of schools or colleges in your area that you could contact. Another route is to contact the Board of Education or colleges directly and ask about photography programs that could use the equipment. About 10 years ago I gave my film equipment to a local teacher that is a judge for our club.

Nice gesture. Fwiiw, I have an entire Canon kit (60D) to our local high school that has a fine arts program. I offered to sponsor a few kids in our camera club and asked to be notified when the school had an art show. Covid hit and nothing ever came of it. But I suppose the camera and kit are being used.
Perhaps consider a local Houston school?
I made a promise to my husband before he died. I would get our granddaughter her first “real” camera. My granddaughter just turned 8. I think she has the interest. I just returned from Vietnam where she lives and watched her interact with my Nikon D500. I thought now is the time to introduce her to a passion both my former husband and I shared. She has a good eye and hand and eye coordination.
I read some of the replies and their suggestions are also good. Whatever your choice, I am sure it will bring joy to someone!
Thank you.
A very nice gesture TBerwick!
