Activity last night from the backyard. We called them thunderstorms in the Bronx but out here they're monsoons. A distinction without a difference. Got about 15 minutes of very much needed hard rain.
Please arrange to green everything up.
I'll be travelling to Mesa for a family reunion in early October.

They can call it what they like -- It's still water!!
Hope some of that runs off into the Colorado River --
We are drinking out of canteens in ever-so-dry SOCAL

Monsoon rains are impressive but unfortunately not impacting on the overall drought. The only hope for the LA and Phoenix basins is several years of above average rain and snow fall in the Colorado River watershed.
Great shot. Monsoons are exciting to say the least

So right, Curmudgeon. We have plenty of water. It's just not in the right place. If they can build a pipeline from Canada to Texas to carry oil they certainly can build one from Washington State or the Great Lakes to fill Powell and Mead without putting a dent in the northern water supply. Not only will that solve the issue for water for people but would create more farmland out of desert to ease the food supply for the world. Win, win.
Nice shot. It looks as if the golf course has been well-watered, rain or no.

Nice picture, but we call that a pop up summer shower in these parts. Although it seems those pop up summer showers are dropping a lot more rain than I remember them having back in the 50’s in my youth.

We called 'm that in Astoria, too. But the difference here is the Monsoon is a warm wet flow to a lower pressure drier air location. We live near Reno, NV and, thankfully, we get some South to North.
And thunder it did.
Gift horses of the wet variety are very welcome these days.
