As a young boy we drove to W.VA. and visited the coal mining town in the hills where my father grew up. A number of the people still living there remembered him. The mine must still have been in operation because one of the men showed me the "script" that the company paid him with, and gave me several of the coins. Now that the mine has shut down, the town of Republic is also gone.
