I fell and broke my left humerus on 3 July. Am in rehab and not doing any complex computer work. (Typing one-handed is the pits!)

Ugh!
Been there, done that. Feel your pain. Understand the disruptions. The best thing I can tell you is to find a good massage therapist. The medical doctors and surgeons will fix your bones, but ignore your the condition of the soft tissues that got stretched, stoved, and otherwise mangled in the fall. X-rays don't show this damage, medical doctors don't own up to it, but you will feel it. You don't have to live with the stiff, sore, aching muscles. Good luck and speedy recovery.

Thank you. The rehab therapists are doing some massage of the arm.

Ouch!! That's not humorous at all!!! My wife tripped over the leg of a chair that was sticking out at my daughter's house several months ago. After healing and p.t., an MRI has determined that she'll need a total shoulder. Get well soon!!

I pray that treatment of your wife is successful. The shoulder is more serious than just a humerus. Working on my get well.

You did not give the specifics of your fall.
But in a hurry, I took a short cut across a ramp. When my feet went down the ramp and out from under me to the left side, I fell sideways with my right hand trying to break the fall. The broken arm is healed. But the muscles from the arm pit, down the ribs, back, waist, all through the pelvis and into the leg are still giving me grief some 12 plus years later. Mowing grass on my tractor on these WV hillsides yesterday has all those muscles wound up into rare form today. The sooner you get those muscles attended to the better.

I was at church preparing to enter with the choir when my toe caught the carpet and I tripped. Went down like a felled tree and landed on my face and left arm. Looked like a raccoon for a while.

I'd venture to say that you've got muscles from you left arm all the way down to your left leg that absorbed the fall. They might not be complaining right now, but they are out of sorts, and someday they will let you know, big time. Believe it or not, you've probably got shifting of bones and knotting or muscles in your head and neck that the medical profession can not see in X-rays. In their book, if nothing is broken or bleeding, you're OK! do you have pains in around your waist? Are you having headaches and neck aches? Is your vision going wonky earlier in the evening than before? It will be far easier and faster to get them straighten out now than it will 5 or 6 years from now.

I can tell you a lot about muscle therapy if you are interested. I will also tell you now, that a massage therapist will refer you to a chiropractor or medical doctor if you need that treatment. You will have to go a long way to find a medical doctor that will refer you to a massage therapist.

We can talk on the open forum or by PM, either way, if you like. I just don't want you to be going around in pain.

Follow up. I've been home since mid-September and getting both Physical and Occupational Therapy once a week each. Other specialists from time to time. My arm is now strong and I'm able to do most anything I want to. I can't raise my left arm up a lot, but I get by. OT thought maybe I also suffered a rotary cuff injury, but I don't plan on doing anything about it now. I have not tried to drive yet, but will do so very soon (in the daytime--my night vision is not the greatest any more). I have been able to resume a few activities with transportation provided by others (and very thankful to have friends). I get round walking with a cane.

One of the other Choir Tenors and his family had me over for Thanksgiving Dinner, which was very thoughtful (and a great meal--turkey, etc.). I took a fruit salad (some say it is "famous") and a couple of cobalt glass tumblers--they've now got 6 of them because I've done it before, and they like them very much.

Many thanks for all the good wishes. I haven't posted much recently because I've kind of run out of photos I think are good enough. My planned tour of the Northwest US in September and October had to be cancelled due to my incarceration in Rehab. That was to be a 3-week tour and I expected to have lots of new photos to share. My next travel will no doubt be the upcoming Choir tour to England and Scotland next June. I am paying the way for one of the other men in expectation that he will provide some support for me if I need it.

I did post today a blurb about Pearl Harbor Day, including photos of the USS Arizona Memorial taken in 1965 and 2008.

All therapy sessions are now finished and I'll be doing exercises on my own. I do get help once a week for a shower, but I've been doing most of it myself now. I have a Handyman who comes once or twice a week aand helps around the house (and cats). He does the laundry (machines are upstairs and I try not to go up there). We've been working together to get the outside Christmas lights put in place. Not finished yet but another couple of hours should finish it. I'll take photos of the finished product. This is what it looked like last year: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157720231356816/ and this year's will be very similar.
