I'm looking for a wide angle lens for my A7iii. Considering the Tamron 17-28, Sigma 16-28 and the Sony PZ 16-35. I shoot mostly landscape but will try some astrophotography.

As a longtime pro I have owned Sony A6500, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9, and currently own A1, A7RIV, A7SIII.

I currently have 13 E-mount lenses from 10mm to 600mm form Sony, Sigma and Tamron.

I love my Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens. It has proved its value time and again for landscape shots. For astro shots the faster aperture is very important. I would not go with a lens above f2.8 for then your shots will be so long, you might get star movement.

Here just a few of my shots with my Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens.

1) The Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco, California. Sony A7RIV, Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens, ISO 400, 17mm, f4, 1/60 sec. handheld, sunset/dusk natural light .

2) Horseshoe Bend and the Colorado River, near Page, Arizona. This is an HDR image of five exposure-bracketed shots merged in LR. A7RIV, Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens, ISO 100, 17mm, f8

3) Sunrise over famed Monument Valley, scene of countless movies, TV shows, Commercials, Navajo Lands, Arizona/Utah border. A7RIV, Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens, ISO 100, 28mm, f22, 1/30 sec.

The new Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 DG DN scores even a bit better in sharpness than the Tamron. It was NOT out yet when I bought my Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens in June 2019. I own two other Sigma DG DN lenses in E-mount and they are superb, so no worry if you choose the Sigma.

The excellent Sony 16-35 PZ is really more for video shooters and is f4. Ok for landscapes but not optimal for astro shots.

I love my Tamron, but IMHO get the Sigma now, it is a bit better optically. There is a rumor of a version II of the Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 coming, maybe later this year and it should be improved and match the Sigma optically, but no need to wait, no one knows if and when that will happen.

If I was in your situation today I would get the Sigma. The Sony 16-35mm f2.8 GM is tops but much more expensive.

I recently went through a similar lens search. I use the a7iii, a9, a7ii and a7Riv. I had the Sigma 12-24 DG in A mount from my a65 and a99ii days. I was not that happy with the images on the newer Sony cameras. I had done research on the Sony, Tamron, and Sigma wide zooms that others had mentioned. I ended up choosing the Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 Art. I am quite happy with it. Sigma Art lenses are quite good. I also have the Samyang 14mm f2.8 Manual lens. I mostly use it for Star Shots. The next lens I am looking for is something in the 18 to 21 mm range prime and faster than f2 for panoramic star shots.
