What is considered America's first mass killing happened in 1949. After 1966 (Texas Tower shooting) the rate accelerated. When I wanted to purchase a gun in 1968, I found I had to wait till I was 21. Got it out of the Montgomery Wards catalog, but I had to pick it up at the store.

Do you remember when Klein's Sporting Goods in Chicago used to run full page ads in various outdoor magazines with all kinds of surplus weapons for sale? I believe that's where Oswald got the Mannlicher rifle that he supposedly used to shoot JFK.

How ironic that you would make such a statement about anyone.
Higgins argues that at one time gun regulations in this country were unnecessary; and in his mind still unnecessary. Then he stupidly destroys the argument by adding that similarly at one time locks on doors were unnecessary.
We all know that times have changed—it is a much different America in 2022, Now in 2022, we all lock our doors, and regulations with regard to gun ownership similarily are now necessary, much like door locks.
The man’s intellect is not impressive, unless he thinks we can go back in time.
He's trying to get you to understand the obvious. Guns aren't the problem. People are but we keep blaming guns because we can see them. We avoid blaming sick people because we don't see their problem until after they commit their evil.

I don't think it would be easy to prove, but I suspect these sick people would not be as likely to commit mass killings if they did not have easy access to guns. Knives, baseball bats, and even cars are just not going to be the weapon of choice.
You forgot a big one: bombs. Don,'t forget McVey

The first mass killing of note, happened in Bath, Michigan, on May 18, 1927, by one Andrew Kehoe. The two explosions killed 6 adults and 38 children.
Now, the 1949 mass murder may have been committed with a pistol, but the mass murder in Bath, MI, was far deadlier.

I understand the obvious: Doors should be locked and gun ownership should be regulated. If the logic of Higgins is indicative of our representatives in Congress; this country is too stupid to survive as a democracy.

Democracy is mob rule, we are and always have been a Republic.
Show me a democracy anywhere in history that HAS survived- we'll wait.

Hmm. SanFranciscans are leaving their cars unlocked to save their windows from being smashed when thieves want in. Stores are forfeiting up to $950 in stolen goods because such theft is unprosecutable. While the last time I checked all gun ownership is still regulated.

All countries have sick people, but no 1st world country has the level of gun violence that we do. We are the only country that worships guns as if they are God. We have 120 guns per 100 people. The next closest country for gun ownership has about 1/2 that number. More guns equals more deaths.
