My USB ports do not recognize any of my flash drives and they used to. Do not know what happened or how to fix. Any ideas. They do recognize other things when plugged in like my iPod to update music, etc.

Do they show up in "my computer" ?
If they do open them from there.

I had that problem with a SanDisk drive. It was because I had deleted the needed files (drivers?) from either the drive or my computer. I was able to download the needed files from the SanDisk website and it works fine now.

Windows 7 usually loads the drivers for stuff like this when you put them into the usb slot.

Isn't the flashdrive supposed to have some factory files on it? I'm pretty sure that I had removed all of the files on my drive and the result was that the computer didn't recognize it any more. I'm no computer expert though.....

Does anything else work on the USB ports? If not, I'd open up the box and see if the cable header is pushed tight on the USB port pins on the mobo.

Hi ngc,
jerryg tried that "They do recognize other things when plugged in like my iPod to update music, etc."

It's gotta be the usb driver/s have been moved or deleted. Waiting for some answers coming back to us from our questions.

Very interesting! I have a similar problem that I have been researching. Both my CD and DVD drives have vanished from "My Computer." I googled the issue and found that Microsoft has quite a lot of help on the subject. I don't have the web addresses handy at the moment, but a Google search will find more info than you can wade through in a weekend.
So far I haven't managed to find anything that has worked, but maybe yours is not so bad. In my situation, I can't re-install any drivers because they all come on disks, and ...!
Anyway, good luck with your search for a solution. It is available at MS--just hard to find.

I know this sounds too easy but have you updated lately? Go to microsoft.com and go to updates.
I recently had many problems that went away as soon as I got my updates up to date.
Good luck.

What kind of computer?
Assuming windows do the drives show up in explorer?
By any chance did you deformat them?
just erasing files should not cause them to fail to function, I do it all the time, Bob.

Sounds like a driver problem, but I don't see how it occurred, try letting windows download new drivers, should be easy, Bob.
