Think I'll hit the pool this evening even if the water warms up. I hope the suspect Texas electrical grid holds up.

I have my central air on 8 months a year here in the Northeast. I couldn't survive in the South. God Bless ya.
yes we have some really hot weather, the thing is we offset that with only about 30 days a year of cold weather. Ends up with 4 months hot, 1 month cold and the rest pretty pleasant. Ive seen 80F in January many times, and went sailing on a local lake on Xmas day.

I think I'd melt! Hot enough here, NYC.
One of the reasons it is so miserable when the temps go up up up is...
Houses are built for air conditioning...not natural air conditioning.
My neighbor grew up in Orlando when it was only dirt roads and two traffic lights..no air conditioning...anywhere.
But the houses were built differently.
They built up the first floor adding a large enveloping deck. A taller narrow house was better than a fat one floor house.
Vents at the roof line...removable slats next to the baseboards with screens built into them.
Open up the slats around the first floor perimeter...hand crank open the roof vent...and voila...instant cool air from beneath the house wafts upward...hot air being released at the roof vent.
Todays houses...if your a/c goes out... you cook on the inside.

Taller windows that could be opened at both top and bottom helped out around here.

We feel your pain in the desert southwest however it's you humidity that keeps me here and not there.
How many people who are very concerned about the use of fossil fuel when used to generate electricity turn off their air to help save the planet? Or do they run their air only when the electricity is generated with renewable energy?

There only two seasons in Texas - Summer and Not Summer.
Looks like Texas is heading to a new record for most successive days of triple digit temperatures. You have my sympathies.

I live in Alamogordo. Cloudcroft is our go to place once or twice a week to escape the heat!
Went to Mantorville, MN over the 4th of July. High was 89 with lows around 60. I thought this was fantastic, but then remembered my son's doors are triple pane glass with a handle mechanism that snuggs the door against the weatherproofing to provide protection down to -40 degrees. I think I'll only visit in the summertime.
