Well, the Indians were not smart. First, they were nomadic. They did not believe in possessing the land and that no one owned it. They would fight each other, kill each other off and steal the other tribes women and daughters. Since they did not take possession of the land some one else would. Then became a conquered race at the end of long list the Europeans had already conquered. All those races that were conquered had to assimilate into the culture of the attacker or had to leave.
But the US did something no other conquering nation had done. They allowed their culture to exist and gave them land. At the time this was considered a reparation for them. But the greatest gift they gave to the Indians was socialism. Which cause their culture to self destruct. Once all were made poor but given just enough they did not work, they had no self worth from working. So they turned to drugs and alcohol as the US gave them everything, there is no US tax. They were protected by US military which they don't pay for.
Just like the first experiment with socialism the colonist attempted, the Indian attempt failed as well which led to their nation reduced to our level of street people, beggers, though they weren't homeless the Dictators (chiefs) took care of that. But socialism destroyed everything they had. Their culture gone, now just another failded socialist experiment that shows what socialism does to any nation. Not only that, because the chiefs set up casinos that you pay no taxes on earning so they play on an unequal playing field that American small business like gas stations cannot compete. Trapped on gov land, they cannot personally own. That is socialism.
Remember the Indians when you think about voting democrat. Socialism is 2 steps away from communism and democrats want everyone equally destitute and depending on government.
