I see so many people use Red River papers for printing but I question the cost vs other papers. For the causal printing, family photos etc. I can’t see the high cost difference. I just looked up red river glossy 10.4 mil 4x6, $22 for 100 sheets. Canon glossy 4x6 on B&H is $23 for 400 sheets. I’ve always gotten good results from canon papers on my Pro-100.

I use paper from Inkpress (B&H?) and Office Depot.
Since I've no super-duper paper to actually compare them to, they look good to me.
But I could pay 2-4 times as much to simply know that I used the best.

I use red river paper also. For satin paper I use the ultra satin 4.0. For gloss I use the ultra pro gloss in the 68lb variety. For flowers ECT I use the pro gloss metallic. You can order a sample pack of their different papers and decide for your self. The gave icc profiles for all their papers and also tell you which setting to set for paper type. If you use icc profiles make sure you set color management to none in the canon settings.

I buy photo paper from Red River paper. 32 lb matte for my personal family photo album, scrapbook, double sided matte for calendars, various glossy papers for cards and special prints. have always had good results, good packaging for shipment, good service, and when severe weather shut down their facility, they were proactive in keeping me informed as to when my order would ship.

You can't hardly go wrong with Red River Paper. Good quality, good price and the RRP staff takes good care of their customers. I used to live in Dallas and would drive to their warehouse on my lunch hour. They had a clearance shelf with some great bargains. I really miss that now that I'm living in North Carolina.

I have a Canon printer and do 4x6 and 8x10 with Canon paper from B&H. The cost is a non issue. I usually place an order to B&H 2 to 3 times a year for supplies. The printer recognizes the matte finish Canon paper as one of the presets. My results are sterling.

I use Red River as well. I’ve had better results than any paper I’ve used. They even provide a profile for you in regards to your brand of printer. Great choice of papers, excellent customer service.

There are MANY high quality inkjet papers. A few:

Canon (Use in Canon printers*)
Epson (Use in Epson printers*)
Hahnemühle FineArt https://www.hahnemuehle.com/en/index.html
HP (Use in HP Printers*)
Red River https://www.redriverpaper.com
Moab https://www.moabpaper.com
Magic Inkjet https://www.magicinkjet.com
Sunset https://www.lexjet.com/shop-by-department?specs=55027&mid=150

*Or make your own ICC profiles for use in another printer brand. Printer manufacturers don't profile other manufacturers' printers for use with their papers.

Lexjet is a fabulous online source for all things inkjet. https://www.lexjet.com/shop-by-department?specs=55027

Agree. The Canon papers IMO are excellent. I also do 5x7 and 8x10 occasionally and the canon profiles are in the printer.

Using Art photo papers for family and friends pictures is WAY overkill. I used Epson printers for many years, so I used the basic Epson papers. The main quality difference was paper weight - a matter of practicality not appearance.
When I got the Canon Pro-100 I bought a number of "quality" papers in 13x19" size, and made some beautiful prints. No friend has ever commented on the beautiful paper surface, including artist friends.
So now I buy Epson matte and glossy paper in 8.5x11 to print any smaller size for interested acquaintances (many of them want an electronic file now), and trim the prints to borderless sizes after printing. SO —

Look up Epson - ink jet print paper - on line, look at what they have to offer in the sizes and kinds of paper that would be useful to you, then close it down and wait for a sale. You might want to visit their site a few times to emphasize your interest. In the past the 8.5x11 and smaller papers have sold at 50% off, with free shipping on orders over $50.
It may be higher now, but it is a lot cheaper than the same product in stores.

And how would they know you didn't use the "best" paper?
Would they really care?
It primarily only matters to the photographer...

Part of an artist's or photographer's process in selling work is to create an aura of lasting value. Wouldn't you rather buy a print made with archival quality pigment inks on archival quality paper or canvas, than a cheap print made on plastic "paper" with cheap dyes that fade 50% in 40 years?

For snapshots, heck, the Internet and social media sharing sites will do. For heirloom portraits and artwork reproductions to be displayed on walls, you want something that will last a while. High quality inks and papers can last a century (or two to four).

Well I suppose some people will keep things for a hundred years because they never tire of them.
I wonder if my kids (or beneficiaries) will want to hang the photos I have hanging in the house...

Most paper is packaged not manufactured by the company on the label. Try several and buy the one you like.
