Ok, I'm not the most astute on a computer. Got a new laptop with Windows10. My email no problem, When wife tries to check email on my laptop, on a different hotmail account, it tells us either the address or the password is wrong. My laptop is smaller, lighter, and has Window 10 which hers doesn't, so she wants to be able to check her email on my laptop when we are traveling. She has no problem checking her email on the desktop or her iphone. If it matters, she uses Outlook whereas I use web based hotmail. What gives, and how do I fix it? Please keep instructions easy & simple.

Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is that when one tries to access email or any other sensitive material (check accounts, investment accounts, etc.) from another computer than one has been using, you have to prove that you are the same person just using a different computer. Usually the account sends a process by which you can prove you are the same person. I'm not knowledgeable enough to solve your problem but perhaps this helps you understand. Is there a computer specialist in your community? If so, get in touch with them.

Thanks for the quick reply. Think I will go by the computer store where I bought the computer next time I am in the city.

Outlook vs. Web-based

Two different animals.

You have to add her e-mail account to Outlook, before you can use it.

Open Outlook and follow the help guides for adding an existing account.

It’s too long to type, here, but the process is automated, so it is fairly simple.

Is she trying to get her email in your browser or in Outlook?

You will either need the discs to load the Outlook programme on to your new computer, or if you have aMicrosoft account then you can download it from the Microsoft website. Then using the settings for http/smtp passwords and email address etc from her computer, enter them in to the newly installed programme on your computer.

You may have to log out of your email account for her to log into her email account while you are logged in on your new laptop.

A simpler method is to make a new user ID on your laptop so both of you are independent of each other's email and other websites. You can switch users without logging out in this scenario.

My bad.

I just noticed she uses a .Hotmail account.

What happens, when she tries to log on at Hotmail.com or Microsoft.com?

Hasn’t worked either way. Typical Microsoft to me. Why I generally use Firefox as browser, although I tried windows edge also this time. Still no luck. I guess she will have to bring her laptop, too, or use her iPhone. Seems like an out-dated way for Microsoft to operate. Do appreciate the suggestions from everyone though.

I don't think it has anything to do with what browser you use in this instance and really not Microsoft either. Until recently we used Outlook for all our email on both computers. My email is gmail and my wife uses hotmail. Both accounts, well I have 3 actually and my wife only one, were loaded onto both computers.
So that was 4 different email addresses on one Outlook programme.
Do you have the disks for Outlook or did you buy it as a standalone programme from Microsoft, or do you have it on subscription from Microsoft. We both use Firefox as our browser but that shouldn't be a factor in what you are trying to achieve in my opinion.
Once you have Outlook loaded onto the new computer just load in the original settings and password. QED really.
Cheers

How does she access her email on the old PC? Outlook or Edge/Chrome/Firefox? I'm thinking she uses the browser on the old PC, changed and saved the password in the browser, and has forgotten the password.

Nope. I put in her password manually but kept getting the statement “ID or password incorrect”. or something to that effect. Thanks, anyway.
