Barn Owl

On July 17, I checked on the Barn Owlets in my research nesting box, some 17 feet up on a hunting tower. I was pleased to see there were five healthy owlets. The wind, heat, humidity, and a face mask were a challenge for me. Note the rodent remains (pellets) in the nest. Barn Owls are stealth predators of rodents. Another interesting fact is that the adult owls do not provide the owlets with any water. The owlets obtain their water through the metabolism of the prey.

LDB415, Thanks for your review and interest. Not certain when I can get back to the nesting box this summer.
