I was ready to purchase the Nikkon 70-200 2.8, VRII, when I was told by my contact at the store I do business with to hold off because the VR III is about to be released. Can anyone add to this information?

All I can say is that I have no idea how they could improve on the VRII. However, if a VRIII is about to be released, perhaps the price will come down on the VRII. I love mine!

LouEllen, you my store guy and I are on the same page, I will wait to see what happens to the VRII lens price, before popping the bucks for that great lens.

Jamers and LouEllen - I also like my Nikon 70-200, 2.8, VRII. I used to think I had to always use a tripod with it, but found if I am very careful and hold it just right, as I should, I can usually get a pretty decent shot in regards to it not shaking/blurring when I hit the shutter button on my camera.

I also found that if I'm sitting, say on a bleacher seat, I can hold it fairly steady if I lock my arms on my knees, so to speak. I'll have to keep my eye open for the new model, but it will probably be super expensive, which I can't really afford anyway!

The new Nikon 70-200 is an f4 lens, not f2.8

I agree - I don't know how it could be improved; such a wonderful lens.

The new 70-200 VRIII is reported to be 2.8, one source said it might even be an f2. Yes the 700-200 f4 VR III has been released.

I'd love to see an f/2, but I know I wouldn't be able to buy one- we stilll have two kids to get through college.

Like I said in my original post, this was from my camera guy from where I get all my equipment. As far as I know, he was never a look out at Pearl Harbor. :D
