Hello,
I am looking to purchase a new camera. I have used DSLR in the past and I am now considering buying the Nikon Z 611. My interest is taking pictures occasionally of family and friends at their events; I also used the camera whenever I go on vacations. I do not have a specific interest but just general photography once attracted to something of interest.
Your recommendation is appreciated. Regards and thanks.
I use the Nikon Z6 which I bought before the Z6-II came out. I enjoy its features, ease of handling, and quality of images. I personally would not hesitate to buy another and the Z6-II would be my choice for the "bang for the dollar" for the Nikon user.

I have the Z6 (model before the Z6 11 came out) and consider it a great camera.
Mine is also used for sports and low light shooting and I can not fault it for the work I do. The 24-70 f/4 kit lens is good and sharp and I use the camera with some of my F mount lenses as well.
Downsides, I do find it a bit small when using larger lenses and the controls on the right rear are a bit too close together for fast operation for me. Some complain about the ease of accidental movement of the focus point joystick but not something that had concerned me.
Thanks Grahame - interesting that you mention closeness of the control
I have the Z6ll and love it
Nikon has a refurbished sale and the Z6II is about $1500. The Z6III is due to come out soon. I have the Z6 original and it is an amazing all around camera for still photography and video. For sports and wildlife/birds in flight, not the best in autofocus.
They have improved the autofocus speed and locking ability. Totally love my Z6ii...
Thanks mymike and Manny Myers - helpful!
I recently bought a Nikon Z6ii and I cannot be happier. It's similar but better than my D750 in every way, especially the Auto focus and the video. I also bought the Nikon 24-120 F4S and the 14-30 F4 S. Both are outstanding lens . I keep the D750 as the second camera but I am transitioning to mirrorless. No regret.

For you needs the Z 6 would serve you well at a lot lower cost than the Z 6 II.
Did any of you consider the Z5 an an alternative?
I’m looking to go mirrorless and it ticks a lot boxes for me.
Seems packed with a lot of features I’m looking for.
Video capabilities aren’t important to me and I don’t need high fps rate.
Dual SD card slots, vs more expensive QXD card.
Is the BSI sensor that much better?
Read that it gives maybe a one-stop improvement in IQ.
Thanks for your thoughts.

If you are looking for a camera for taking photos of family and friends, vacations, etc., you may also want to consider the the original Z6 or Z5, or even the Z50, which is a DX (crop frame) camera. All are considerably less expensive than the Z6II. The major differences between the Z6 and Z6II are two card slots, and a better focusing system for the Z6II (although recent firmware updates from Nikon has improved the Z6 focusing system quite a bit). The Z50 with the two kit lenses (16mm-50mm and 50mm-250mm) is smaller and lighter than any of the Z full frame cameras, and perfect for taking along on vacation. Plus the Z50 and two Z kit lenses are very inexpensive.
Note that there is a bit of a learning curve with the Z focusing system. It's different than Nikon's DSLRs and takes a bit of practice to master. That being said, Z cameras are (to me) more fun and ultimately easier to use.
