This is true in direct sunlight, which is why I stick to shaded paved trails. If it's too hot for me, it's too hot for my dogs.

I never realized how hot street asphalt can get. I guess my pooch would appreciate some shoes when taken out for a walk. I gotta get a sign for my neighborhood!

Thanks for the advice!

Good reminder! Plus it's an extension of what happens in a race car: 90 degrees in the stands is the same 140+ degrees in a car out on the track.

But at least there's a slight breeze.

Depends on whether it’s an open or closed car. In a closed car with Nomex underwear and a racing suit plus a full face helmet, hood, gloves and maybe a HANS device, it’s damn hot. Plus there’s no heat insulation. Most cars have air ducts/hoses pointed at the driver and maybe a helmet hose so they can drink liquid.

Back to the dog, do those little booties help?

Little booties do help if you can keep them on the dog. My dogs are so spoiled, they don't like to go out to pee when it's too hot out. They do go out, but as soon as they are done doing doggie things, they're back to the door demanding to be let in. They have let the, royal dogs of Madagascar, thing go to their cute little heads.

I occasionally see people walking their dogs in the late morning Florida heat and humidity while THEY are riding a bicycle or golf cart. They are risking causing heat stroke as well as burning the poor dog's feet. I won't say what I think of these people.

I don’t know why, but the streets of my Naples development are ok for walking dogs. I’ve tested it myself, and my dog too has no problem. I have no idea why it isn’t roasting.

That's the nice thing about having a dog that ways only 18 pounds, when necessary I can pick her up and carry her across hot pavement.

I have had properties with dirt/shellrock roads...the difference in temperature is astronomical compared to pavement.

Pavement is a serious health risk to all wildlife...especially tortoises.

Ribbons of death is more accurate...but wouldn't sell as well.

Literally a sign of the times. I can't imagine some poor dog being dragged along a road in the mid-West's 100+ degree heat. Animals aren't stupid and won't purposely walk on hot asphalt unless their owners force them to. Maybe owners should walk barefooted when they take their pets for a walk.
