It has no need to know, it just needs insulation, a vacuum bottle, to use as a separating barrier.

The dewar is a double wall container with a vacuum between the walls. The vacuum eliminates thermal conduction between the walls because there's nothing there to transfer heat. The thermos (which is a genericized trade name) is a dewar with mirrored walls. That reduces thermal radiation transfer between the walls.
