But he’s buying from the store using their website. That helps the store. It’s not the same as buying from a “fulfillment center”.

Now I don't care if anyone say MPB is good I know now from the OP not to deal with them. I wouldn't want to deal with a business that refuses to deal in person.

Web is the new "mail order". There have been mail order only locations for a long time. MPB is another one of them. Just saying.

And you have heard from many others, good reports. And heard of recent changes, so maybe the recent problems are temporary, maybe not.

Perhaps it's not a case of charging more for the camera, more a case of re-evaluating your sent gear first-hand and deciding it was worth $200 less than their original estimate. But if that's the case it's still poor form to not inform you of the reason.

NO The invoice they sent me clearly stated the were selling the camera for 2895. And yes they did lower the value of my gear. However it was not significant and that has happened to me with other stores. The issue here is poor customer contact. When a customer emails you several times and additionally calls and you and you don't get back to them within 24 hours. that's just poor business. If at any point they would have responded timely and said they were inundated I may have cut them some slack. But I never received correspondence to that effect.

I don't want to deal with a web only business now that I know that they are.

I agree. When I first looked at their website I saw a local address listed I assumed that if I had a issue I could just walk in. That’s on me for not doing further research. MBP specifically told me I could not visit their local location. I have in the past done business with B & H as well a KEH without ever going in the store.

Thanks! I just heard of MPB, via "Outdoor Photography Guide" (which does not impress me), and I looked at their site. However I have never heard of them before and now I know why.

MPB is one of the largest, and as far as I know the only multinational, used gear dealers. My experience is that some stuff you won't get much for in the states can find a stronger market abroad, so you get more money selling certain items to MPB than to the US dealers. The company has been around in some form since 2006; I would not yet dismiss them out of hand.

At 14miles away I think I would have made this purchase in person

Fourteen, 140 or 1,400 miles -- it makes no difference. MPB simply does not have a retail location and will not do business "in person."

They don’t have a brick and Mortar store for you to visit. I missed that when I first looked at their website. They don’t make that clear. The address which is listed on their webpage DOES NOT allow customers

To me, the very obvious question is - Why didn't you just go the 14 miles to their store, and be done with it? No back and forth, no waiting, and face to face communication! I certainly much prefer that option whenever it's available!

That was my question!!!!

Sorry your experience with them was poor. I have had excellent experiences with them, both buying and selling. My last experience took a bit longer, but they were relocating to a larger facility. I never experience any changes in pricing after a deal was negotiated and they promptly returned email inquiries, even during my recent transactions during their relocation.

I have to echo RKL349, I've bought and sold with MPB and they were positive experiences. Every once in a while there's a problem with everyone. I've seen letters here complaining about how lousy B&H (Adorama, Robert's, Camera, etc. etc.) is and that they would never return. That's the nature of the beast. You just happened to be the "unlucky one" here. I feel your pain donie and hope you get some satisfaction.

I was wondering the same thing. Would seem much easier & less time consuming.
